The San Francisco 49ers’ injury situation at wide receiver is in a mess.

With WR Deebo Samuel already in the locker room due to an illness, WR Brandon Aiyuk took a low hit on a catch late in the second quarter and awkwardly bent his right knee. The 49ers quickly ruled Aiyuk out with a knee injury.

Aiyuk was attended to by trainers before limping to the blue medical tent on the sideline. According to reporters at Levi’s Stadium, he was carted off the field at halftime.

The Aiyuk injury leaves the 49ers woefully short on wide receivers. Rookies Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing were on the field with veteran Chris Conley immediately after the Aiyuk injury. Ronnie Bell is the only other WR on the active roster.

It’s unclear what Samuel’s status is as he is dealing with an illness that limits him to just three snaps in the first half according to the Fox broadcast.

Aiyuk had two catches for 23 yards on six targets before leaving Sunday’s game. He has 25 receptions and 374 receiving yards this season.

The 49ers offense struggled in the first half even with Aiyuk on the court. They had just 131 yards and five first downs at the half. Kansas City took a 14-6 lead into halftime.
