    LOS ANGELES — The National League Championship Series is back in Los Angeles for Game 6 between the New York Mets and the Dodgers.

    New York’s offense exploded with the season on the line with a 12-6 loss in Game 5, sending the series back to the West Coast. Now the Mets will try to force a winner-take-all Game 7, while the Dodgers will try to clinch their spot in the World Series for the fourth time in eight seasons.

    For the Mets, Sean Manaea (12-6, 3.47 ERA) takes the mound on Sunday in hopes of extending the streak. The 32-year-old left-hander has been dominant this postseason, closing out Los Angeles with the Game 2 victory last week. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are going with another bullpen play, this time hoping it yields different results than when it was deployed in Game 2.

    One side of the World Series has already been filled in with the New York Yankees representing the American League. Now the Bronx Bombers are waiting to see if they’ll head to Los Angeles for Game 1 of the Fall Classic on Friday, or if they’ll wait to see if they’ll host the World Series opener in a postseason Subway Series.

    Tommy Edman’s two-run double gives Dodgers a 2-1 lead

    After the Mets scored in the top of the first inning, the Dodgers came right back and took a 2-1 lead on Tommy Edman’s two-run double off Sean Manaea. It is the first main change in the series.

    LOS ANGELES — New York is on the board in the first inning, joining Dodgers pitcher Michael Kopech.

    After Francisco Lindor walked, a wild pitch moved him to second base and a groundout by Brandon Nimmo moved him to third base. With two outs, Pete Alonso hit a flare into the infield and second baseman Chris Taylor couldn’t get an accurate throw to first base, allowing Lindor to score and make it 1-0. Taylor was accused of fouling the game.

    Ryan Brasier started the first two bullpen games of the postseason for the Dodgers, but Dave Roberts will start Game 6 along with Michael Kopech. Kopech has been arguably the Dodgers’ best reliever since arriving from the White Sox at the trade deadline and has yet to give up a run in the 2024 postseason.

    “I think we all felt like it’s part of a lineup that we like, Michael,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts explained before the game. “He’s started games before. And I think this is the best chance to get an out in the first inning and then move on.”

    “At the end of the day, he just felt, we felt, it was best for him to give him another day,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said before the Sunay game. “It’s possible he’s late for an at-bat, but the defense had batting practice yesterday. He felt fine. But he’s just not feeling like himself. So we just felt another day might help.”
