Lack of change is detrimental to Jeff Ulbrich

Review of the Jets’ 37-15 road loss to the Steelers on Sunday night.

Offence

The Jets scored just 15 points and went scoreless in the second half. They didn’t have a running game to speak of (54 yards) and their best passing plays were dump-offs to RB Breece Hall (6 catches, 103 yards).

QB Aaron Rodgers (24 of 39, 276 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs, 70 rating) wasn’t very good, and his interception before halftime created a wave of momentum in the game.

WR Garrett Wilson (5 catches, 61 yards) bounced a ball off his chest for Rodgers’ second interception. WR Davante Adams (3 catches, 30 yards) didn’t have much of an impact in his first game.

Defense

The Steelers racked up 409 total yards, including 227 in the second half. The Jets weren’t creating results and the defense seemed to wear down as the game progressed and injuries piled up in the secondary.

CB Sauce Gardner was assessed a costly pass interference penalty that set up the Steelers score before halftime.

QB Russell Wilson (16 of 29, 264 yards, 2 TDS, 109 rating) started slow, but found a rhythm and hit a number of downfield passes to the Jets. WR George Pickens (5 catches, 111 yards, 1 TD) killed the Jets repeatedly.

Special teams

Greg Zuerlein had a field goal blocked in the third quarter that could have given the Jets some momentum. Kick returner Xavier Gipson fumbled out of bounds twice.

Coaching

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said the Jets didn’t handle adversity well, and Rodgers said the team lacked energy. Both of which are devastating for the new head coach.

The Jets played another game full of mistakes and look nothing like the team everyone expected.

Todd Downing got away from the run too early and the Jets looked much the same as they did before Woody Johnson’s big coaching shake-up.
