Rumor Roundup: AJ Lee & WWE, CM Punk Title Plans, Brock Lesnar, More!

Speculating on the rumors surrounding professional wrestling is a favorite pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors coming out of the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that: rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track the accuracy of rumors in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back, which you can find here. Remember: take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the day:

  • “WWE is fully on board for” an AJ Lee return, according to WrestleVotes. That from a Backstage Pass Q&A with Bill Apter. Voices added that AJ has not given the company any indication that she will be back, and that the only people who know what she thinks are her and her husband.
  • Speaking of Lee’s husband, Ibou said on WrestlePurists’ Raw review show that CM Punk will face Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight title on Survivor Series.
  • Apter also asked WrestleVotes about the rumors of Brock Lesnar returning to WWE on Backstage Pass. Voices replied, ‘I’ll give you a short answer. Yes”.
  • In response to that and the speculation created by the “Beast” references on Raw last Monday, Fightful Select reported that “there are no creative plans for Lesnar” at WWE. If there have been any internal conversations about Brock’s return, Fightful’s sources did not mention them.
  • Jakara Jackson & Lash Legend’s recent WWE Women’s Tag title shot on SmackDown was made so company officials “could have a chance to just evaluate them,” according to Wrestlepurists’ Ibou. It’s said that WWE thinks NXT’s Meta-Four “has a significant advantage,” and if Legend & Jackson’s evaluation was favorable, the entire group could be drafted soon. If not, they will gain more experience in NXT with an eye toward promotion through next year’s Draft or later in 2025.
  • AEW recently filed to trademark “Fright Night Dynamite,” which was announced as the name of their October 30 episode.
