Player Ratings: AC Milan 3-1 Club Brugge

AC Milan recorded its first win of the 2024/25 Champions League edition when they scored three goals against Club Brugge. Several players did well, especially a duo off the bench, and below are the ratings for the Rossoneri.

If you haven’t already, make sure you take a look how we determine player ratings. From the scale to what influences the rating, we’ve collected everything there.

From XI

Maignant (7): The goalkeeper made some very good saves in the first half and prevented Milan from going down early, which could have made for a completely different game. After the red card he didn’t have much to do anymore and he couldn’t do anything about the goal.

Emerson Royal (5.5): In the first half alone, Brugge had three dangerous chances on its side of the defense. To be fair, the third chance came via a quick counter, so his positioning was understandable, but the first two chances were almost fatal. He improved after the red card, but we can still demand more.

Gabbia (6): Although the defense was a bit tense at times, the centre-back defended well and also had some nice long balls for the attackers. He got a yellow card and made a few fouls, which brings the rating down, but solid.

Tomori (6): Like his colleague at the heart of the defence, it was more of a solid display than a spectacular or mediocre one. He didn’t really get out of position with the second goal either.

Hernández (6): All things considered, the Frenchman was important in both phases of the match and especially in attack. He missed a good return from Leao and was a little too central for the goal, but he also had some good interceptions and moved forward when necessary.

Reijnders (7.5 – MOTM): The Dutchman looked a bit out of place at the start of the first half, as did Fofana, but certainly improved as the match progressed. First he did well to put pressure on Onyedika, which resulted in the red card, and then he scored two goals. The right place at the right time for both of them, allowing him to finally keep his composure in front of goal.

Fofana (6): Although he had some good moments, there were too many misplaced passes and lost balls today (mind you in dangerous positions). It just wasn’t as impressive as we saw against Udinese, but still enough to get a pass given his overall contribution.

Pulisian (7): He opened the scoring from the corner flag (!) when a great curler was sent into the penalty area. Of course, he had a bit of luck with what happened next, but the cross was still spot on. With the second goal he made a great run towards the first post, so that Reijnders also had space. And the overall performance was very good from him too.

Loftus cheek (5.5): He used his physique to retain the ball on a few occasions, but as far as actually contributing to the key phases of the attack he was unsuccessful.

Leah (6): To be fair, he had some good moments tonight, such as the cutback for Theo and then the run plus pass for Pulisic’s chance in the first half. At the same time, Okafor immediately made a real difference in his position, as did Chukwueze on the other side. They are clearly in much better shape.

Morata (5.5): Not the usual impact we’ve come to expect from him, he looks a bit tired and can’t really find his teammates in most situations. Hard work as always, but it would have been nice with a little more output.

Substitutes

Chukwueze (7): Great work on the third goal, drilling past his man before driving forward to find Reijdners in the penalty area. He had a few more good runs into the penalty area, which resulted in dangerous chances, and he made the right decisions.

Ocaphore (7): Like his opponent from the bench, it had an immediate impact and even though the series against Udinese was better, we should not downplay today’s series. Once again he kept his composure after beating his man and turning on the acceleration, something we don’t often see from Leao.

Camarda (6.5): He became the youngest Italian player and the youngest Milanese player to play in the Champions League at 16 years and 226 days. He was very unlucky not to score the goal, disallowed for a narrow but clear offside, especially because he was very lively and played well.

Musa (6): Solid passing and control of the ball in midfield allowed Milan to finish the match.

Thiaw (n/a): We haven’t seen enough to give him a rating.
