The Los Angeles Lakers are off to a hot start in the opening minutes of their regular season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Their offense has seen more ball and player movement than last season, and they have been active on defense, which has resulted in several early transition opportunities for them.

One guy who could play a bigger role in new head coach JJ Redick’s offense this year is Rui Hachimura. Early in the first quarter, the forward got the basketball beyond the three-point line against standout defenseman Anthony Edwards and drove past Edwards to throw down a big dunk in the face of reigning Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert.

Gobert has won the Defensive Player of the Year award four times over the last seven seasons, so it’s not exactly easy to dunk in his face. But Hachimura has deceptive athleticism and he has the ability to finish strong at the rim when he creates opportunities for himself to get to the hoop.
