Bronny James’ feel-good moment with LeBron could be his last meaningful minutes for a while.

The orchestrated decision to have the father and son duo appear on the pitch together in a regular match led to three minutes of match action together and rankled some in the media who called it ‘a complete afterthought and disrespectful to the game’.

Bronny showed up in the first half and missed both shot attempts as the Lakers were outscored by five points.

The 20-year-old did not appear again in the Lakers’ 110-103 victory over the Timberwolves.

The second-round selection is unlikely to be part of the Lakers’ regular rotation as the veteran team competes for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The younger James is considered a long-term investment after having a mediocre season at USC following cardiac arrest during a preseason workout.

“My days are not normal anymore. I still feel like I’m coming back, I’m going back to where I was,” Bronny told Men’s Health before the season.

The question becomes what the Lakers now think is best for Bronny’s future – with LeBron likely having a major say in the matter.

Bronny, who bounced around during Summer League and the preseason, could play sparingly in garbage time with the Lakers or see significant minutes in the G-League, which starts next month.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, who has covered LeBron since he played in high school, gave his insight into the Lakers’ mindset Wednesday morning.

“As a father, you will have a certain feeling that your son is with you,” Windhorst said on “Get Up.”

“What the Lakers are doing here is trying to get the most out of LeBron. This is an investment not only in history, but also in engaging and encouraging your franchise player at 39 years old. And I think it works. LeBron is fully engaged and energetic, and I think JJ Reddick is making a really smart move, fully leaning into this, fully embracing this, setting this up and making it happen.

“It won’t define this season, and I’m not even sure it will define this week for the Lakers. But it will be so important for his franchise player.”

The Lakers host the Suns on Friday and hope to start the season 2-0.
