Today is Thor’s Day, which probably means we have to make some sort of sacrifice to the gods, since everything I’ve seen lately featuring the Norse god has depicted him as extremely nasty and hideous – apart from the Marvel comics version that is . I suppose the gods are in many ways capricious, cunning, and grotesque, especially the gods of warlike men. Bloody and tempestuous seems just right for the god of thunder. But I digress. It’s Thursday and we have a Strands puzzle to solve!

Strands is the newest game in the New York Times puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Each day we are given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that covers two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which moves from one side of the grid to the other and reveals even more about the theme of the day.

This is a bit trickier part than usual, I think, mainly because I started looking for types of tea and really struggled with it. Even when I discovered CHAI, it didn’t work (although I quickly realized it needed to be part of the spangram). I found ANISE first, strangely enough, and then CARDAMOM. After CINNAMON I worked my way up from CHAI and found MASALACHAI. From there everything was pretty simple, but this one definitely surprised me a bit!
