We tried Jimmy John’s Picklewich, a sandwich with pickles instead of bread

Pickle lovers have lunch plans for the near future.

Jimmy John’s unveiled its newest menu item, the Picklewich, on October 24. As the name suggests, it features typical sub-ingredients sandwiched between a giant dill pickle instead of bread.

The Picklewich will be available nationally from October 28 to November 14 in two varieties, filled in a hollowed-out pickle. The Vito Picklewich has salami, capocollo, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, and oil and vinegar (like Jimmy John’s classic Vito sandwich) to create an Italian sub experience in a pickle. The Turkey Picklewich combines some of the same toppings (lettuce, tomato and onion) with turkey and provolone.

PEOPLE’s staff got an early taste of the Picklewich options and all agreed they’re the real dill for real pickle fanatics.

The Picklewich is available in two varieties: the Vito and the Turkey.

Both Picklewich versions are very, well, finicky. Each bite is about half pickle and half meat and cheese – sometimes even more pickle than toppings. The creaminess of the provolone was a nice balance with the salty punch of the pickle in both the Turkey and the Vito. Testers say if you’re a meat lover, go for the Vito.

Employees found that the Picklewich variations were much lighter than a typical sandwich and left the testers ready to go for the rest of the afternoon, while a regular sub could lead to an afternoon nap. The meal also made for good leftovers. Soggyness is obsolete because there is no bread or absorbent toppings to make it less crunchy from the pickle juice.

Jimmy John works with Jersey Coast‘s Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, who also shared her review with PEOPLE.

“I’ve tried everything, chips, treats, you name it. I was even a Pickle Princess for Halloween one year!” she says. “But I’d never had a pickle sandwich until now, and I’m obsessed. As a pickle expert, trust me, the new Jimmy John’s Picklewich lives up to the hype.”

In addition to the Picklewich options, Jimmy John’s will sell pickle-flavored chips to pair with the sandwiches.

Customers can score a half-price Picklewich on November 3 for National Sandwich Day. Rewards members just need to purchase an 8-inch sandwich to get the deal.

Burger King and Hidden Valley Ranch are teaming up on ‘Big Dip’ cups.

Hidden Valley Ranch

In other crazy fast food news, Burger King and Hidden Valley Ranch teamed up to sell “Big Dip” cups of ranch on Oct. 16.

The creative concept is a wide 8-ounce cup of Hidden Valley Ranch, which is eight times the size of BK’s typical sauce container. The large cups are designed for dipping Whoppers and in some states can be requested at no additional cost with the purchase of a BK sandwich. (BK has a tracker to check availability.)

They’ll only be there while supplies last, but the regular Hidden Valley Ranch cups are “here to stay,” according to the press release.
