Nevadans will begin celebrating the Silver State’s 160th birthday on Friday, October 25, six days before the state’s official founding anniversary on October 31.

Here’s a look at which offices are closed for the holiday, what remains open, and how to attend the Nevada Day Parade:

What is closed on Nevada Day?

Reno

All City of Reno administrative offices, including City Hall, will be closed on Friday, October 25 in observance of Nevada Day.

The following facilities in Reno are also closed on Friday: Adaptive Cycling Center, California Building, Idlewild Pool, McKinley Arts & Culture Center, Northwest Pool, Plumas Gym, Reno Tennis Center, skate parks, Sky Tavern, Teglia’s Paradise Park Activity Center and Tranerpool. The Moana Springs Community Aquatics & Fitness Center is open from 6 a.m. to noon

The Neil Road Recreation Center and the Evelyn Mount Community Center are only open from 10am to 6pm as polling stations for early voters, but both are closed due to their facilities.

Washoe County

Students at Washoe County public schools have the day off on Friday. UNR staff and students also have the day off.

Most government offices in Washoe County will also be closed on October 25. However, provincial buildings that serve as voting centers will only remain open for voting.

The following offices in Washoe County are closed: Administrative offices in the Washoe County Complex at 1001 E. Ninth St., all Washoe County libraries Regional Animal Services Shelter Operations and Office, Reno Justice Court, Sparks Justice Court, Incline Village Justice Court and Wadsworth Justice Court, Second Judicial District Court and the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office, Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue Headquarters/Fire Prevention and Administrative Offices at 3663 Barron Way, Northern Nevada Public Health clinical services, Washoe County Human Services Agency and all meal distribution locations.

Nevada

Department of Motor Vehicles offices are closed across Nevada on Friday.

What’s open on Nevada Day?

Voting locations will be open throughout Reno to cast ballots, even if the facility is closed.

The County Clerk’s office in the Washoe County Complex remains open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for fictitious business names, notarized bonds and marriage licenses. However, passport services will not be available.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and administrative offices will be unavailable. However, visitation and checkout services remain open, and if citizens need emergency assistance, they can call 911 or contact the non-emergency line at 775-785-WCSO (9276).

Although the regional animal shelters and office will be closed, field activities will continue as usual. Pet redemptions are available from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Provincial libraries are closed, but book drops and online services are available.

When is the Nevada Day Parade? Where is the Nevada Day Parade?

The Nevada Day celebration begins Saturday, October 26 at 8 a.m. in Carson City with the launch of a hot air balloon in Carson City.

The Nevada Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. with a military flyover, followed by more than 200 entries that will march through downtown Carson City. Visitors can expect the parade to last four hours.

The World Championship Single-Jack Rock Drill competition begins at 11 a.m. at the Carson Mall

At 2:00 PM or immediately after the parade ends, the beard contest will begin at McFadden Plaza.

The Post Parade Celebration will take place at Telegraph, Curry and Proctor Streets from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
