Leicester v Nottingham Forest: Premier League – live | Premier League

Important events

89 minutes: Ayew is shown a yellow card for a frustrated clatter against Silva. The resulting free kick is shot in from the right by Sosa, and Yates directs a header onto the right post. He has rightly been flagged offside, but in a parallel universe the Forest defender is now celebrating a hat-trick. Small margins here and there.

Part

88 minutes: The Forest fans serenade their former boss Steve Cooper. The verb serenade a lot of heavy lifting there.

Part

86 minutes: Fatawu hooks in a cross from the right. Easy for Sels, who has had nothing to do since the break. According to Sky, Leicester’s only attempt on target tonight was Vardy’s goal. The thing is, they looked pretty good offensively in the first half. Just not enough threat on the sharp side.

Part

85 minutes: …apart from the ball, that is. Okoli’s poor pass from the back allows Sosa to get to goal shyly. He drags it wide to the left.

Part

84 minutes: Forest is looking forward to this game with confidence. Leicester now offers.

Part

82 minutes: Faes heads Forest’s free kick behind for a corner. The set piece eventually works back to Sosa, who skis a somber long-range effort deep into the stands.

Part

81 minutes: … so there will be no hat-trick for Wood, as the two-goal striker is hooked on Awoniyi. The big man was brilliant tonight.

80 minutes: Williams hare on the left after a long ball. A first delivery into the center would test Wood for his hat-trick, but Williams strangely opts to come back and the attack fizzles out.

Part

78 minutes: Dominguez gets a yellow card for a lazy clip on Soumare’s ankle.

Part

77 minutes: Sosa’s first act is to almost dribble in through the channel on the left. Forest look more likely to score a fourth than Leicester to reduce their deficit.

Part

76 minutes: Another double forest change. Hudson-Odoi and Elanga make way for Silva and Sosa.

Part

74 minutes: The corner leads to a game of head tennis. Forest are under some pressure, but Faes clumsily rams into Dominguez and the whistle provides relief for the visitors. Faes uses up a lot of moral credit in this second half.

Part

73 minutes: Justin shoots a nice diagonal pass towards Fatawu on the right flank. Fatawu wins a corner. Wink to send it.

Part

71 minutes: Forest respond to Leicester’s double substitution with a substitution of their own, replacing Anderson and Moreno with Williams and Morato.

Part

69 minutes: A huge opportunity to settle things once and for all for Forest. A corner kick from the right. Leicester fail to deal with it, and the ball falls to Yates six yards out. He just has to score, but somehow shoots over the bar. That’s one amazing miss.

Part

68 minutes: Ayew and El Khannouss replace Mavididi and Pereira for Leicester.

Part

67 minutes: Leicester need something quickly and Buonanotte does his bit by winning a corner on the left. Fatawu to send it. It took a long time. Buonanotte heads the ball back across goal, but only into the arms of Sels, who hasn’t had much to do since the restart.

Part

66 minutes: Chris Wood now has six Premier League goals to his name this season. Only Erling Haaland has more with ten.

Part

64 minutes: Leicester was also the better team in the first half. But it is Forest who have done much better since the restart, and by far the most clinical. Buonanotte makes matters worse and gets a swinging hand in Yates’ face.

62 minutes: Faes always has a fault in him, and that really hurt Leicester as this game suddenly eluded them. The away fans are now completely freed from longing.

GOAL! Leicester 1-3 Forest (Wood 60)

It’s Wood again, and this one comes straight from the 80s. Sels launches long in the middle. It’s Faes versus Wood on the hunt. Faes walks weakly back towards his caregiver, with Hermansen in no man’s land. Wood heads the falling ball over the keeper and into the unguarded net. Another defensive nightmare from Leicester’s perspective; once again a beautiful finish from Wood!

58 minutes: Aina walks to the right again… and is once again pulled back by a cynical hand. This time it’s Winks, and he goes into the book.

Part

57 minutes: The Forest fans are in party mode at the moment. You know the football song du jour by now.

Part

56 minutes: …and to illustrate that, Hudson-Odoi moves quickly down the inside left channel, opens his body and creates a curling side-footer around Hermansen and from the base of the right post. Anderson sends the rebound inches wide left. Leicester is suddenly holding their own here.

Part

55 minutes: Aina gives a cross from the right. The ball falls at the feet of Anderson, who shoots a shot towards goal from the edge of the penalty area… but the ball is blocked and cleared. However, the forest returns, Hudson-Odoi crosses far from the left. Elanga just misses the far stick. Forest look dangerous every time they attack.

Part

53 minutes: Buonanotte and Anderson both die in an accidental collision. Fortunately, they both get back up in some way. We keep playing.

Part

51 minutes: It’s true that a little tug was given to Vardy, but the striker got his feet mixed up before going over, and that was never going to be rewarded. Buonanotte shoots over in frustration from a distance.

Part

50 minutes: Mavididi pings a pass down the left channel hoping to release Vardy into the penalty area. It’s a bit overheated and Sels claims, although Vardy goes over it and claims to have been clipped by Milenkovic. He wants a penalty, but the referee is not interested, and neither is the VAR.

Part

49 minutes: That was an absolute winner from Wood. It would never end 1-1.

GOAL! Leicester 1-2 Forest (Wood 47)

From Forest’s perspective, this is a simple goal. Anderson takes possession on the left and rolls into the field for Wood, who stands on the penalty spot with his back to goal. Wood spins and sends a glorious shot to the bottom right. A wonderful ending! But another possession from Leicester’s side, with Winks and Fatawu confusing each other, allowed Forest to begin their attack.

Part-time entertainment. Having mentioned former Leicester and Forest boss Matt Gillies in the introduction, I would be doing you a disservice if I didn’t remind you of this typically fine piece from our old friend Rob Bagchi. Enjoy, enjoy.

HALF TIME: Leicester City 1-1 Nottingham Forest

Leicester were the better team, but that’s not to put Forest down. Both teams showed a lot of attacking ambition and it was an entertaining end-to-end match. More please!

Part

45 mins +2: Mavididi comes in from the left and bends one into the bottom right corner. Just wide, but Sels had it under control.

Part

45 minutes +1: Buonanotte bombs through the middle and delivers a pass wide to the right for Vardy, whose cutback finds Fatawu on the edge of the box. Fatawu cannot control the ball for a shot. Too bad, because that was a nice flowing move.

Part

45 minutes: There will be two extra first half minutes.

Part

44 minutes: Buonanotte makes his way to the left and cuts back for Mavididi, who cannot turn the ball towards goal. Another attractive attack.

Part

43 minutes: Mavididi tries to release Vardy inside left with a cute turn and back move. Not quite, but full marks for artistic ambition.

Part

41 minutes: Moreno is shown a yellow card for eliminating Fatawu on the right wing. Winks tries to squeeze the free kick towards Vardy in the penalty area, but his accuracy is lacking this time.

Part

40 minutes: Winks shoots far from the left into the corner. Sels comes from his line; he flutters and misses. Faes misjudges his attempt to head the ball to the far stick; it comes from his back and then from Aina, but Leicester no longer get a corner. It’s probably best that everyone forgets all about this, players, officials, everything. We won’t say more about it.

39 minutes: Buonanotte finds some space on the right side, but cannot find anyone with his cutback. Forest fail to clear their lines properly and Fatawu is able to try again from the same flank. His deep cross is sent out by Moreno via the far post for a corner.

Part

37 minutes: Nothing comes of it. “This is a very open and attractive game, with both sides wanting to attack (at least for now),” notes Michael Cosgrove. “Add to that the classic blue versus red shirts against a well-maintained green field and I’m a happy little bunny.”

Part

36 minutes: Elanga rams the free kick aimlessly straight into the wall. But the rebound worked back to Hudson-Odoi, who fired a shot towards the right side of the goal. Shades of his winner at Anfield. But Hermansen fully supports it and turns it around the post.

Part

35 minutes: Elanga bursts through the middle with plenty of space in front of him. He has a chance to send Hudson-Odoi free to the left, but the pass is overcooked and the ball clatters out for a goal kick. But Pereira had also clipped Elanga from behind, and Forest were awarded the free-kick, 25 yards out in a central position. Dangerous. Pereira also discusses the book.
