Match up

Ottawa (4-2–0) is in the second game of a three-game road trip before returning home. So far, the Senators are 1-1 as a road team, having lost 4-1 to Montreal earlier this season and beating Utah 4-0 in their most recent match. The Senators are currently tied with the Lightning, Red Wings and Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division, but they have at least a game in hand with each of those teams.

Meanwhile, Vegas (4-3-1) has won all four of its home games this season by a combined score of 21-9, reaching the puck line in three of those games. Vegas is 10-2 all-time against the Senators, including 5-1 at home. The Golden Knights lost the last meeting in Ottawa, but before that they had won nine straight against the Senators. Vegas is currently tied with Seattle for third place in the Pacific Division, but still has a game in hand on the Kraken.

Best Bets for Senators vs. Golden Knights

Vegas Golden Knights Moneyline (-130) at Sports Interaction

All signs point to Linus Ullmark returning to the Senators on Friday after Ottawa reassigned goaltender Leevi Merilainen to the minors and sportsbooks adjusted their game odds as a result. Vegas originally opened as a -155 moneyline favorite, but has since moved to -130 as a result of the news, and I think this makes the Golden Knights an attractive bet.

The Ottawa Senators are struggling at five-on-five and rank 27th in goals per 60 minutes. While their expected goals are slightly better than Vegas, Ottawa has underperformed in expected goals over the last four seasons. In contrast, the Golden Knights are a top five offensive team, scoring 3.58 goals per 60 minutes.

While Vegas hasn’t shown the same defensive structure as last season, it is primed for an offensive boost. Ullmark has never lost to Vegas in his career, but this will be only his third match against the club. Defenseman Shea Theodore returns from illness after signing a seven-year extension, and forward William Karlsson is set to make his season debut, so I’m backing the Golden Knights to keep their home winning streak alive at -130 moneyline odds.
