Dana White consults Mark Zuckerberg to create the UFC rankings

Dana White is determined to find an alternative methodology for the UFC rankings, so much so that he says he recently reached out to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

In an interview with TNT Sports on Thursday, White kept many of his ideas for the UFC rankings close to his chest, but continued to talk down to the current system of polling by select media outlets.

“I could go on, but I won’t,” White said. “We literally met this week to work on it. I actually talked to Mark Zuckerberg about AI as well, so yeah. I’m going to improve the rankings completely. We are going to take many strong steps here in 2025.”

White has been increasingly vocal about his dissatisfaction with the current system, which has been in place since the rankings were introduced in February 2013.

Recent complaints include Renato Moicano staying put after his win over Benoit Saint Denis, Alex Pereira’s lack of impact against Khalil Rountree and Max Holloway being under Justin Gaethje.

White has since indicated that an algorithm-based ranking or alternative system will likely be installed in the coming months. While White has said he is having conversations with several groups about possible changes, the reference to Zuckerberg marks the first specific name he has dropped.
