Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm makes bold World Series prediction after Game 1 loss

LOS ANGELES — Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. is once again making headlines with his unwavering self-confidence.

Chisholm was asked Saturday afternoon — a day after a crushing walk-off loss in Game 1 of the World Series — what allows the Yankees to bounce back from such a gut punch.

“I think we’ve been doing this all year,” Chisholm said. “I feel like nothing has changed between us in our clubhouse. We still feel like we have this in the bag. Not cocky, but we’re confident we’ll go out and win four games.”

After the Royals won Game 2 of the Division Series at Yankee Stadium earlier this month, Chisholm famously said that Kansas City “got lucky.” His logic was that the Yankees were hitting the ball hard, but had still missed opportunities. That’s why they fell short.

“We still don’t feel like any team is better than us,” Chisholm added that day in the ALDS.

The Yankees, of course, won that series, but his comment became a storyline. It irritated some players in the Royals clubhouse and Yankees manager Aaron Boone had to backtrack on it later. He said he disagreed, while adding that the infielder can be “colorful” in his confidence at times.

That expanded Saturday afternoon as the Yankees tried to avoid an 0-2 hole in the World Series.

“For me, I feel like we’re going to play baseball,” Chisholm said. “We enjoy the moment as much as they do. After that loss, I don’t feel like it was quiet in the clubhouse. We were talking to each other and said it was a fun baseball game, let’s do it again tomorrow, but let’s come out on top.”
