SEC Power Rankings After Week 9

It was another week with a big matchup headlined on Saturday in college football. Texas A&M hosted the LSU Tigers in a game that had implications for the SEC title game and the College Football Playoff. After the Aggies trailed 17-7 at halftime, they turned it on and dominated the Tigers after halftime for a 38-23 victory.

Texas A&M is the only SEC team undefeated in conference play and has an edge in the race for the SEC championship game. There are four teams with one loss in conference play and another six teams with two losses. In most years, two losses have all but eliminated a team from conference title contention, but as the SEC has done this season, the race to play the title game in Atlanta will likely come down to the final week of the season. .

Here’s an updated look at our SEC power rankings after all the Week 9 action.

Week 9: Lost to Texas 27-21

The Commodores put up a good fight against the Longhorns, but Vanderbilt was just 3 of 12 on third downs and turned the ball over three times. It’s tough to win a game like that, but we’re not going to punish the Commodores for losing a close game against Texas.

Week 9: Beat Missouri 34-0

This is the kind of performance we’ve come to expect from the Alabama Crimson Tide, who absolutely dominated the Missouri Tigers in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide defense held the Tigers to just 239 yards.

Week 9: DEW WEEK

The Florida Gators played good ball heading into the bye week. They had won three of four and only lost to Tennessee by a touchdown. Their matchup with Georgia in The World’s Greatest Outdoor Cocktail Party is intriguing, even if the Gators enter the game as huge underdogs.

Week 9: Beat Mississippi State 58-25

Starting quarterback Brady Cook suffered a hand injury late in the first half. Before Cook was injured, he was averaging just 2.5 yards per attempt. Week 9: Lost to Ole Miss 26-14

That was an improved first-half performance for the Oklahoma Sooners offense, but four punts to start the second half, including three three-and-outs, put Oklahoma behind by two scores. Forced to pass, the offensive line couldn’t withstand the pressure, ultimately allowing 10 sacks in the game.

Week 9: Beat Kentucky 24-10

If Auburn wins the turnover battle, they have talent to work with. The problem is that not much has happened yet. Trailing 10-0 after the first quarter, the Tigers scored the final 24 points of the game.
