James Franklin provides update on Penn State QB Drew Allar after injury vs. Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. — Drew Allar’s status for next week’s game against Ohio State is unknown after the Penn State quarterback left Saturday’s win over Wisconsin with an injury.

The Nittany Lions triumphed over the Badgers thanks to a gutsy performance by backup quarterback Beau Pribula and the defense, winning 28-13 at Camp Randall Stadium.

But in his post-match press conference, James Franklin said it was not a precaution to keep Allar off the pitch after he suffered an injury at the end of the first half.

“I’m not going to get into a lot of medical stuff right now, especially when I don’t have a lot of information,” Franklin said. “The question was: Will he be mobile enough to give us the opportunity to run the offense the way we need to run the offense? And it really came down to Drew. I asked him to be very, very honest with me. And we just didn’t feel like he was going to move well enough to go. And even throwing it at the end of the half was a challenge.”

Allar was sacked on Penn State’s final drive of the first half and was taken down by several Badgers. Allar apparently suffered a leg injury in the process of the sack.

After the Nittany Lions punted, Allar walked off the field to the locker room ahead of the rest of the team. He was accompanied by head athletic trainer Andy Mutnan.

When the Nittany Lions returned to the field for the second half, Allar jogged out with a brace on his left knee. He warmed up but did not take the field for the opening moments of the third quarter.

Allar completed 14 of 18 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown in the first half. Pribula took over from there, completing 11 of 13 passes for 98 yards and a crucial touchdown.

Penn State plays Ohio State next Saturday in what should be a matchup of top-five teams. The Nittany Lions and Buckeyes kick off at noon. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
