Fantasy Football Week 8 inactives: who is joining and who is leaving?

Who should you start with? Who should you sit with? To help you build your fantasy football lineups and avoid starting an offensive player who isn’t in the lineup, we’ll post fantasy-relevant updates and analysis here when NFL teams release their official inactive lists. All rankings mentioned in this column come from our ESPN Fantasy staff rankings.

Official Sunday inactives should arrive approximately 90 minutes before scheduled kickoff times: around 11:30 AM ET for early games and 2:30 PM ET for late afternoon games.

Refresh regularly for the latest information.

4:00 PM ET games

Curtis Samuel, WR, BUF: Pectoral fins — OUT
Impact: He’s targeting a return in Week 9, but he has even less value now that Amari Cooper is in town.

Andy Dalton, QB, CAR: Thumb — Inactive
Impact: Bryce Young will start while Dalton recovers from Tuesday’s car accident.

Jonathon Brooks, RB, AUTO: Knee — OUT
Impact: Chuba Hubbard can star for at least another week for the Panthers.

Tommy Tremble, TE, CAR: Back — Active
Impact: Ja’Tavion Sanders (groin/wrist) was also limited in training all week. Either TE can still start.

Diontae Johnson, WR, CAR: Ribs — OUT
Impact: He will sit down despite claiming he is ready to go. Xavier Legette and Jonathan Mingo start.

Adam Thielen, WR, AUTO: Hamstring — OUT
Impact: Still not ready to return from IR; we could see if David Moore or Jalen Coker get looks.

Travis Homer, RB, CHI: Finger — Active
Impact: Fresh off IR, he gets to spell D’Andre Swift. Khalil Herbert sits down.

JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, KC: Hamstring — OUT
Impact: At least he’s not on IR. DeAndre Hopkins just arrived in town and will be working alongside Xavier Worthy.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, KC: Team decision — Inactive
Impact: It looks like he might need some more time before making his debut in 2024.

Will Dissly, TE, LAC: Shoulder — Active
Impact: He caught eight passes last week while Hurst was out. He was a game-time call, but will pass.

Hayden Hurst, TE, LAC: Lies — Inactive
Impact: With Hurst out and Dissly sick, Eric Tomlinson could be a TE sleeper.

DJ Chark Jr., WR, LAC: Lies — Inactive
Impact: He was on IR heading into the week and wasn’t activated in time to play – and his team could have used him.

Derius Davis, WR, LAC: Hamstring — Inactive
Impact: Brenden Rice or Simi Fehoko could default to the group for a few shots.

Quentin Johnston, WR, LAC: Single — Inactive
Impact: It appears Joshua Palmer is the only Chargers player you can count on to start. Jaylen Johnson and Jalen Reagor were both undrafted from the practice squad.

Ladd McConkey, WR, LAC: Hip — Active
Impact: He’ll adapt (maybe just out of necessity), even if he missed two practices last week and saw limited action on Friday.

Aidan O’Connell, QB, LV: Thumb — OFF/IR
Impact: Gardner Minshew, whose mustache is usually more impressive than his stats, will start again at quarterback.

Jakobi Meyers, WR, LV: Single — Active
Impact: He plays for the first time in several weeks. He may be “about to count.”

Derek Carr, QB, NO: Oblique — Inactive
Impact: Spencer Rattler will start again as Carr tries to return to form.

Cedrick Wilson Jr., WR, NO: Hip — OUT
Impact: Chris Olave, on the other hand, returns this week after a sit-out due to a concussion.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling, WR, NO: Team decision — Inactive
Impact: Only signed earlier this week, recipient needs more time to get up to speed on the playbook.

DK Metcalf, WR, ZEE: Knee — Inactive
Impact: It will be Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba for all your pass catching needs.

Jayden Daniels, QB, WAS: Ribs — Active
Impact: Marcus Mariota picks up the clipboard and hopefully doesn’t have to put it down.

Sunday night game

John Stephens Jr., TE, DAL: Knee — OFF/IR
Impact: His season is over. The vacated roster spot helped make room for RB Dalvin Cook, who was named from the practice squad.

Jake Moody, K, SF: Single — OUT
Impact: Anders Carlson comes on again, even after missing an extra point last week.

Jauan Jennings, WR, SF: Hip — OUT
Impact: With Jennings and Brandon Aiyuk (on IR with torn ACL) out, Ricky Pearsall may be tasked with starting.

Deebo Samuel Sr., WR, SF: Disease — Doubtful
Impact: Jacob Cowing and Chris Conley may also see some targets as Samuel battles pneumonia, though he is currently expected to play.

George Kittle, TE, SF: Foot — Doubtful
Impact: Especially given the WR issues, expect Kittle to play through the injury.

1:00 PM ET games

Keaton Mitchell, RB, BAL: Knee — OUT
Impact: His 21-day reentry period is now open. Once he returns, he could replace Justice Hill as the No. 2 RB option.

Rasheen Ali, RB, BAL: Single — OUT
Impact: Given the above news, once Ali returns, he can only be used on special teams.

Zay Bloemen, WR, BAL: Single — Active
Impact: It looks like he will try to play, but don’t be surprised if Rashod Bateman is more effective.

Tee Higgins, WR, CIN: Quadruple — Inactive
Impact: His late addition to the injury report on Friday did not bode well. Andrei Iosivas gets a slight increase in fantasy value.

Jerome Ford, RB, CLE: Hamstring — OUT
Impact: Nick Chubb is pinned by Pierre Strong Jr.

Deshaun Watson, QB, CLE: Achilles — OFF/IR
Impact: Jameis Winston gets a chance to hold off Dorian Thompson-Robinson (finger) as he looks to start consideration in the future.

Jameson Williams, WR, DET: Delay
Impact: He will miss this week and next. Kalif Raymond and Tim Patrick get value boosts.

Travis Etienne Jr., RB, JAX: Hamstring — Inactive
Impact: Tank Bigsby and D’Ernest Johnson are asked to perform again.

Tua Tagovailoa, QB, MIA: Concussion — Active
Impact: He has cleared the league’s concussion protocol and will compete again on Sunday. Tyler Huntley (shoulder) takes his place on IR.

Tyreek Hill, WR, MIA: Foot — Active
Impact: Jaylen Waddle could be the No. 1 WR option for Tua’s return if Hill isn’t at 100%.

Ja’Lynn Polk, WR, NE: Concussion — OUT
Impact: He remains in the league’s concussion protocol. Kayshon Boutte is currently the “safest” Patriots receiver.

Allen Lazard, WR, NYJ: Chest — Inactive
Impact: Even if he had played, the Jets didn’t trade for Davante Adams to avoid throwing as much at him as possible.

Dallas Goedert, TE, PHI: Hamstring — OUT
Impact: Grant Calcaterra is called in his place.

Bucky Irving, RB, TB: Toe — Active
Impact: He was always expected to play, but Sean Tucker is lurking.

Mike Evans, WR, TB: Hamstring — OUT
Impact: Chris Godwin (ankle/IR) is done for the season. Evans may return in Week 12 if all goes well.

Rakim Jarrett, WR, TB: Knee — Active
Impact: He was activated from IR this week as the Bucs looked to replenish a depleted WR room.

Will Levis, QB, TEN: Shoulder — Inactive
Impact: Mason Rudolph took most of the reps with the first team this week, so this isn’t a shock.

Tyjae Spears, RB, TEN: Hamstring — OUT
Impact: Tony Pollard should get the most carries, with the remaining details going to Julius Chestnut.
