The American Airlines flight will be one of the most followed in the world

Airplane spotters, or rather trackers, will monitor American Airlines’ inaugural flight from Dallas in the US to Brisbane in Australia from October 26 to 28, according to Flightradar24.

The inaugural service marks the airline’s longest non-stop flight by distance and the longest flight on Brisbane Airport’s destination map, landing at Brisbane Airport on Monday, October 28, after taking off from Dallas-Fort Worth on October 26. Flightradar24 predicts it will be one of the most followed flights in the world, while Brisbane Airport will be too live streaming the landing of the Boeing 787-9 from 4:45 a.m. local time on Monday. A special surprise is planned for the arrival that is expected to set Brisbane apart in the airport livestreaming world.

Ian Petchenik, director of communications at Flightradar24, revealed that people from around the world are “especially keen to watch the livestream of the landing” as they tune in to the plane’s progress from Dallas-Fort Worth to Brisbane.

Twenty competition winners will also be on site at the Australian hub to witness the aircraft’s arrival in person.

Earlier this year, Australia’s Minister for Transport and Tourism, Hon. Michael Healy thanked American Airlines “for bringing two cowboy cultures together.”

Cameron Dick, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Investment, further underlined the importance of the route, describing the deal to connect the two destinations as ‘bigger than Texas’.

He said not only will travel time be reduced, but there will also be 18 tons of cargo space on the planes flying back across the Pacific. That’s great for our agricultural industries, our tech industries and our electrical manufacturers.”

With Brisbane celebrating significant international route development so far in 2024, the airport’s media and communications manager Peter Doherty noted that the airport’s popularity among aviation enthusiasts has also soared. He highlighted the airport’s rich aviation heritage, noting that visitors might see an A380 one moment, a Royal Flying Doctor King Air the next, or the largest surviving Fokker fleet in the world, courtesy of Alliance Airlines.

For the upcoming arrival of the American Airlines flight, the airport will place cameras next to the runway and taxiways, giving viewers a prime front-row seat to the landing.

Noting that livestreaming at airports is becoming increasingly popular, Doherty added that viewers are in for a treat if they tune in to the livestreaming of the inaugural arrival. “We have a surprise planned that, if we can pull it off technically, will set this show apart in the airport livestreaming world.”
