More than a year after Jay Johnston was arrested for his very active participation in one of the worst days in the history of American democracy, the self-proclaimed “blacklisted” actor was sentenced on Monday by a federal judge in Washington DC. Johnston was present at the sentencing and will surrender to authorities to serve his sentence in the coming weeks.

The sentence handed down by U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols was less than the 18 months prosecutors had sought. “An 18-month prison sentence reflects the severity of Johnston’s conduct, including his spread of disinformation about January 6 and his lack of remorse for his participation in the riot,” government attorneys said in a criminal filing filed with the court earlier this month.

To that end, prosectors noted that Johnston “made light of his participation in the riot by dressing up as Jacob Chansley, known as the ‘QAnon Shaman,’ at a Halloween party he attended” in 2022. Anchorman The actor’s lead attorney, Stanley Woodward, tried unsuccessfully to limit his client’s prison sentence to less than a year.

The actor was removed from the Fox animated series after his participation was announced on January 6. His lawyer has claimed that Johnston was targeted by the FBI because he is an “acclaimed Hollywood actor.”

Judge Nichols didn’t believe that and added Johnston to the more than 600 people put behind bars for their role in the January 6 rampage.

As they have done with literally thousands of suspects, the FBI released photos of Johnston not long after the January 6 attack:

As the screenshot-heavy documents make clear, the spread of Johnston’s images was met with a fairly swift response:

On or about March 8, 2021, an attorney contacted the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center (“NTOC”) stating that he/she represented JAY JAMES JOHNSTON, the individual depicted in publicly distributed photographs 247-AFO.

The FBI interviewed three current or former associates of JOHNSTON, all of whom identified JOHNSTON as the person in the above photos from 247-AFO. One of these employees provided the FBI with a text message in which JOHNSTON acknowledged being at the Capitol on January 6 and stated: “The news has presented it as an attack. It actually wasn’t. Thought it kind of turned out that way. It was a mess. I was gassed and gassed and I found it quite intastic.”

United Airlines records show that JOHNSTON had a round-trip flight reservation from Los Angeles, California to Washington, DC, departing on January 4, 2021 and returning on January 7, 2021.

So far, more than 1,000 January 6 rioters have been arrested, with nearly 280 behind bars or about 490 convicted.
