Where Andy Kim and Curtis Bashaw stand on important issues

3 minutes reading

With Election Day just two weeks away, presidential candidates from each party are crisscrossing swing states to make speeches — and perform stunts — to draw attention to a wide range of issues.

They have opinions on the economy, health care and abortion rights that they want to share with voters. And while the names on the top of the ticket will likely drive people to the polls in November, New Jersey voters will also have a seat in the U.S. Senate and all House of Representatives seats on the ballot.

In most cases, the candidates’ positions on these issues correspond with their party’s ideology. Here’s a look at where the top Senate candidates stand:

U.S. Senate: Representative Andy Kim and Curtis Bashaw

Democratic Rep. Andy Kim is a third-term congressman from Burlington County seeking to fill the seat once held by former Sen. Bob Menendez.

He has made clear since announcing his candidacy that his priorities are affordability and has often cited his work in the House of Representatives to lower prescription costs for things like insulin for seniors.

Kim supports access to reproductive health care and women’s right to choose.

The congressman, who has a background in national security during the Obama administration, believes the United States should continue to support Ukraine and Israel.

Republican Curtis Bashaw has never held elected office but is a prominent business owner in South Jersey.

Bashaw has been adamant during the campaign that he is pro-Israel and pro-Ukraine and broadly supports reproductive rights in the context of the Dobbs decision, which leaves the regulation of reproductive rights to the states.
