Dodgers vs. Yankees Game 3 score, live updates: World Series shifts to New York with Los Angeles ahead 2-0

The Los Angeles Dodgers took care of business at home in the first two games of the 2024 World Series, and now the New York Yankees will look to stay in the series and avoid a 3-0 hole in Game 3. the series – if the Yankees extend the series to five or more – will take place at Yankee Stadium, where New York had the worst home record (44-37) of all six division winners in Major League Baseball this season.

Shohei Ohtani, who suffered a separated shoulder while stealing second base in the seventh inning of Game 2, is in the lineup for Game 3. Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton is the 2024 postseason leader in home runs, with six in 11 games. It’s been a Freddie Freeman show so far in the World Series for the Dodgers, as he went 3-for-9 with two home runs – including that epic, game-winning grand slam in Game 1 – and five RBI.

Walker Buehler (0-1, 6.00 ERA, 9.0 IP, 6 K, 3 BB in 2024 postseason) is on the mound for the Dodgers against Clarke Schmidt (0-0, 3.86 ERA, 9.1 IP, 6 K, 3 BB) for the Yankees in Game 3.

Live14 updates

  • Clarke Schmidt struck out Max Muncy on three pitches to end the inning, but the damage had already been done. The Dodgers strike first and take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

  • Freddie Freeman does it again

If the Dodgers win this, Freddie Freeman looks like a lock for MVP. He just hit his third home run in three World Series games, scoring Shohei Ohtani from first to give the Dodgers an early 2-0 lead.

He launched a 1-0 cutter into the right-field stands to suck the air out of Yankee Stadium.

  • Ohtani holds his jersey collar with his left hand as he takes a lead from first base. Don’t expect any steals tonight and probably not for the rest of the series.

  • Shohei runs on 4 spaces

We’ll have to wait and see what Shohei Ohtani’s swing looks like with his injured shoulder. He gets four free throws to start the game.

  • Clarke Schmidt is on the mound and Shohei Ohtani is doing swings in the on-deck circle. It’s almost time for game 3.

  • Still waiting for that first pitch.

  • We are just moments away from the first pitch. Fat Joe hypnotizes the crowd before Clarke Schmidt climbs the hill for the top of the first. We are well past the scheduled start time of 8:08 PM ET.

  • Jeter delivers a strike, because of course he does.

  • Derek Jeter throws the first pitch. That should appropriately hype the Bronx for Game 3.

  • Shohei Ohtani entered the field holding his left arm gingerly during pre-match introductions. He wore something over his uniform and under his jacket over his injured left shoulder as he ran onto the field.

Some people speculate that it is a sling, but this is not how to wear a sling:

  • Could Aaron Judge be on a cold streak?

All eyes are on Aaron Judge tonight. The presumptive AL MVP is hitting .150 in the postseason and is 0-for-10 in the playoffs with runners in scoring position. He combined for six strikeouts in Games 1 and 2 of the World Series in Los Angeles as the Yankees dug an 0-2 hole.

The Yankees’ hopes of turning the series around at home rest largely on his bat.

  • Shohei Ohtani plays

A huge sigh of relief for the Dodgers with their Game 3 lineup card. Shohei Ohtani won’t miss a game after dislocating his left shoulder on a slide during a steal attempt in Game 2. He will take his normal spot at the top of the Dodgers order.

  • Yankees make change at catcher

Here is the Yankees’ lineup for Game 3, with the most notable move being the catcher. Jose Trevino starts behind the plate and bats seventh in the lineup in place of regular starter Austin Wells. Wells went a combined 1-for-8 in Games 1 and 2 and is batting .098 in the postseason.
