Giants injury news: Tyrone Tracy in concussion protocol

New York Giants rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. is in the NFL’s concussion protocol after hitting the back of his head on the turf late in the Giants’ 26-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football.

Tracy left the field after a two-yard run with about four minutes left in the fourth quarter. Steelers defensive lineman Cam Hayward made the tackle, hitting Tracy hard and landing on him to keep the dynamic rookie from picking up yards after contact. Hayward quickly called the trainers over to Tracy, whose head appeared to bounce off the ground at the end of the play.

Tracy was escorted off the field by the Giants’ coaches and straight into the blue medical tent. A short time later he was seen leaving the tent without a helmet and was taken straight to the locker room and did not want to return to the match.

Tracy carried the ball 20 times for 145 yards (7.3 per carry) and a touchdown on the night, with his longest carry being a 45-yard touchdown run to keep the Giants’ hopes of winning alive after a few touchdowns by the Steelers. The Steelers defense was noticeably stingy against the run this year, making Tracy’s night that much better.

Tracy has seemingly taken on the mantle of RB1 in the Giants’ offense, the role he first took over after his 18-carry, 129-yard (7.2 per carry) against the Seattle Seahawks. It remains to be seen how long the Giants will be without Tracy, and they may have to be without him in a short week against the Washington Commanders.
