Jessica Williams Reminds Jon Stewart of His Privilege on ‘The Daily Show’

Former correspondent Jessica Williams stopped by The Daily Show on Monday to remind host Jon Stewart of his privilege.

“Jessica, is it really you?” Stewart asked, as if she were Jacob Marley coming to get everything A Christmas carol and introduce him to some ghosts.

“Don’t be sad, Jon.” the Shrink said star. “Everything will be fine… for you, a white man – a rich old white man.”

“Do you think my rich old white man privilege will save me?” he asked.

He got a weak “maybe” from her, and then she accused him of having a “terminal illness.” Are you going to die?” When asked why she would think that, Williams, who last appeared on the show in April, said, “Just your general vibe and this whole face thing – weft. I mean, I understand why you’ve gotten so old: it’s the last year you did your best every day on the show.”

Stewart sheepishly replied, “I only organize on Mondays.”

‘Oh really? Damn. Okay, double whammy,” Williams said, as Stewart stifled laughter. “Look, it doesn’t matter, okay? No, come on. It doesn’t matter, because for non-old white people, for people of color, and women, and queer people, it’s going to be a whole different story. Okay, let’s me to give you some advice: Look, Jon, I know you’re exhausted. Hell, I’m exhausted. Anger and disappointment in our political discourse are exhausting, but it’s easy to throw up our hands and say, ‘Fine! — I’m tired. Go ahead and take people’s rights Love Island.'”

“I just want to be clear, okay?” she continued. “Don’t let them wear you out. Don’t let the constant, exhausting bulls wear you out. Don’t turn away. Look straight into that barrel and say, ‘Not today, apathy! I only have half a minute.’ case of Trulys.’ And no matter what happens, we have to wrap our arms around the people who need us most and hold on.

Williams then assured Stewart that she is there for him (and The Daily Show). When he reminded her that he had just extended his contract for another year, she wondered aloud whether his health permitted it.

Williams appears in the YouTube video above around the 3:04 mark.
