Kamala Harris’ running mate and Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz had a love affair with the daughter of a top Chinese Communist Party official during his teaching stint in China in 1989, according to a report in the Daily Mail. Jenna Wang, 59, said the stormy love affair with Walz left her devastated and suicidal.

Development comes days before the November 5 US presidential electionwhere Harris will face Republican Donald Trump. It also comes as Walz faced backlash for falsely claiming he was in Hong Kong during the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.

Walz worked as a high school English teacher in Foshan, China’s Guangdong province, before moving to the US and entering politics. He is now governor of Minnesota.

In her interview with the Daily Mail, Wang said her first interaction with Walz was when she attended one of his lectures to brush up on her pronunciation. She claimed that Walz took off her headphones and whispered in her ear, “You are very beautiful.”

The duo soon started meeting each other on walks and going dancing in the evenings. She said Walz would travel to Hong Kong on weekends and bring back luxury gifts such as Ray-Ban sunglasses and jewelry.

‘FELT TO BE TREATED LIKE A PROSTITUTE’

Wang claimed that their relationship blossomed in secret because her father would never have approved of her being with a Western man. The passionate relationship led the then 24-year-old Wang to dream of marriage and a new life in the US.

“Tim Walz was very passionate and very romantic… The fact that we couldn’t touch or kiss in public just made it more exciting and intense when we were finally alone,” Wang said.

However, she claimed that Walz never proposed. Wang claimed that they soon got into heated arguments about whether she really loved Walz or just wanted to get a US visa.

She said the treatment ultimately left her angry and suicidal. The ill-fated romance caused Wang to flee China to Italy.

“Knowing that he wouldn’t marry me made me feel cheap and mean, like I was being treated like a prostitute… I was deeply offended, hurt and had to leave that place because a lot of people knew that. We had a relationship,” Wang said.

Walz married Gwen Whipple after returning to the US in 1993. They have two children.

Now that Walz is the Democratic vice presidential candidate, Wang says he doesn’t have the “character and integrity to do one of the most important jobs in the world.”
