CNN bans far-right panelist over vile comment to Mehdi Hasan, who expressed shock: ‘Do you want me to be killed live on CNN?’

On Monday evening, the anti-Semitism discussion on CNN witnessed an ugly confrontation when far-right panelist Ryan James Girdusky took a jab at fellow commentator Mehdi Hasan, linking him to Hamas terrorists.

The exchange came as Girdusky responded to Hasan’s comment about anti-Semitism among the Trump base, following the backlash from Trump’s recent rally in New York.

The debate flared when Hasan suggested that if those on the right wanted to avoid being labeled “Nazis,” they should take into account statements and behavior that could be construed as anti-Semitic. Girdusky responded, “You have been called an anti-Semite more than anyone else at this table,” to which Hasan quickly responded, “Yes, because of you.”

Girdusky then said, “I never called you an anti-Semite.” But moments later he added, “Well, I hope your pager doesn’t go off,” referring to recent events involving Israeli intelligence, which reportedly planted explosive pagers targeting Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon.

Shocked, Hasan immediately asked, “Did you just say I had to die? Did you just say I should be killed live on CNN? Girdusky denied any intention to imply violence, but Hasan looked at Abby Phillip and pressed, “Did your guy just say I should be killed on live TV?”

The discussion intensified when Girdusky tried to clarify, saying he believed Hasan was a Hamas supporter, but followed with a begrudging apology after Hasan denied any such connection. CNN host Abby Phillip stepped in sternly, telling Girdusky, “Ryan, that’s completely out of pocket,” to de-escalate the moment before it went to commercial.

After returning from the next commercial break, Phillip apologized to Hasan and informed viewers that Girdusky had been asked to leave the show.

Soon, CNN released a statement condemning the incident: “There is no room for racism or bigotry at CNN or on our broadcast,” the network said in a statement shared by Phillip on social media. “We strive to facilitate thoughtful conversations and debates among people who strongly disagree with each other, to explore important issues and promote mutual understanding,” the report said.

“But we will not allow guests to be humiliated or the line of civility to be crossed. Ryan Girdusky will no longer be welcome on our network.”
