A few New York Yankees fans tried to stop Mookie Betts on Tuesday night.

Two Yankees fans sitting in the front row near the right field foul pole were called for fan interference after they tried to actually rip Betts’ glove off his hand as he fouled a ball in Game 4 of the World Series.

Their attempt, which came when Betts tried to track down a Gleyber Torres fly ball in the bottom of the first inning, was unsuccessful.

Torres hit a deep ball Tuesday night, although it started to curve into foul territory in right field. Betts successfully tracked the ball and appeared to have cleared the play when the ball reached the front row of seats at Yankee Stadium, but the two fans immediately tried to jump in and make a play for the ball. One fan even ripped the ball out of Betts’ glove as he tried with everything in his power to pull the glove completely out of Betts’ hand.

While the effort was certainly there, the officials were quick to call fan interference and give Betts the clean sheet. Security also ran towards the fans almost immediately, although it is unclear whether they were turned away.

The Los Angeles Dodgers started Tuesday’s game with a 3-0 lead and took a 2-0 lead immediately after Freddie Freeman hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. Freeman has now hit a home run in all four World Series games and in six consecutive World Series games this fall, both of which are records.

The Dodgers are looking for their first World Series title since 2020. The Yankees haven’t won since 2009. No team in World Series history has successfully rallied from an 0-3 hole.
