They famously fell in love when they starred together on the hit show The Americans – and it proved to be a lasting relationship between stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys.

So much so that Keri, 48, has said she “doesn’t remember any other relationships” before meeting Matthew, 49.

The actress told People: “It can be a really nice shorthand because they know what work is for you, but it can also feel like a lot sometimes,” she said on Tuesday about dating a fellow actor.

‘But it can be nice to have someone doing something completely different so that there is some kind of break. But I’ve been with Matthew so long that I can’t remember any other relationships,” she joked.

Russell was previously married to Shane Deary, with whom she shares two children and dated actors Scott Speedman and Tony Lucca.

The actress spoke openly about the complexities of relationships, using her on-screen romance with Rufus Sewell – who appears as her husband in Netflix’s The Diplomat – as an example.

She said of the political drama series, “This season it feels a little heartbreaking.

‘It feels very grown-up and similar to the reality of knowing someone for so long. But when it comes to Kate and Hal, one doesn’t exist without the other. It’s so tangled that it’s part of their appeal.”

Russell and Rhys were first linked in 2002 after meeting at a mutual friend’s kickball party, where the English actor drunkenly asked for her mobile number. However, nothing came of the gesture at the time.

In 2012, the pair reconnected on the set of the FX series The Americans, appearing as husband and wife KGB spies.

Two years later, rumors of their romance spread after they appeared together in a GQ photo shoot and looked in love at a play in New York City in January 2014.

In May 2016, they welcomed their first child together, a son named Sam, who is now eight years old.

Russell shares Willa, 13, and River, 16, with Deary. The exes went their separate ways in 2013, six years after saying yes.

Her humorous chat comes after her confession claiming she got ‘hot and heavy’ with Rhys in late 2013 when their on-screen chemistry blossomed into a real-life love affair while filming The Americans.

The Golden Globe winner told Variety: “I was in love with Matthew. We were so hot and in love that we shot the spies at night with disguises and wigs.”

The Americans aired for six seasons, from January 30, 2013 to May 30, 2018.

The hit drama followed undercover spies (played by Russell and Rhys) who have an arranged marriage and pose as regular citizens living in Washington, DC, following the election of Ronald Reagan. The duo skillfully balanced their work duties and parenthood while hiding their true identities from their two children.

After almost a decade together, Russell and Rhys have yet to publicly announce any plans to get married.
