Record-breaking summer warm air flows in

With the passing of the warm front while we were sleeping early this morning, our setup today shifts to a pretty strong southwesterly flow – dragging warm air into the region that will drastically change temperatures in Boston and most of New England for the next 48 years make it rise. o’clock. Boston can expect to reach the low 70s today, especially as cloud cover decreases throughout the day.

A few spots in Western New England may even set new daily record highs, including Springfield, North Adams, Pittsfield and Burlington, Virginia. Boston today has no chance of reaching the record high of 78 degrees set in 1918.

The only area that may miss warming today is Maine, where showers will last until around noon and clouds will remain in place longer, limiting the thermometer.

The southwesterly flow will break up the recent dry air and dew points will push into the mid-50s today, with the added moisture helping to combat dry skin.

Unfortunately, the rain will not do much for the increased drought and forest fires in the region. In fact, today’s warming will be accompanied by winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour, which will evaporate water quite quickly today and keep the fire risk in place for today and tomorrow.

The warm-up will remain in effect throughout Halloween, creating a record-breaker across the region. So far, it seems more likely that Boston will reach a high of 80 degrees, while areas in all six New England states are contesting daily high records. Halloween night should be great, except the warm temperatures may keep kids outside longer than the normal trick-or-treating window.

Boston, Hartford, Springfield, Providence, Concord, NH and many areas in between could certainly come within a degree or two of their respective Halloween record highs. The red numbers below mark the areas expected to set new daily records on Halloween.

Southern New England: Temps in the low to mid 50s to start the day. There is a chance of showers or drizzle early this morning, but most will remain dry, while cloud will eventually break as high pressure builds and lets the sun shine. Temperatures should climb into the upper 60s and low 70s. There is a chance of an afternoon breeze of about 10 miles per hour or higher.

Western Mass: In the morning there will be some fog and probably a shower in the east. Partly to mostly sunny skies as the day progresses, with temperatures reaching the upper 60s in Berkshire County. The Pioneer Valley could likely cross the 70-degree mark.

Cape and Islands: The day will start off mostly cloudy and this afternoon temperatures will climb into the low to mid 60s. There may be a local rain shower this morning, but this is unlikely because there is dry air just off the coast. This afternoon probably a wind speed of about 15 kilometers per hour.

Northern New England: The front will likely slow as it moves northeast early this morning – meaning parts of Maine and New Hampshire may remain a bit cooler as showers and clouds may linger a bit longer today. Eventually, skies will become partly cloudy, but this may be after the highest sun angle of the day. Highs in Maine may not reach until the mid-50s, while the low 60s are likely across New Hampshire. Vermont should see more sun early, bringing temperatures closer to 70 degrees.
