Early voting in Oklahoma begins amid national election unrest

Early voting begins tomorrow in Oklahoma, and the State Election Board is reminding voters that there is no need for an excuse to vote early.

But given reports of election unrest across the country, some voters may be concerned about election interference.

NewsChannel 8 spoke with Cole Allen of the Oklahoma Policy Institute, who says incidents like ballot box burnings are not a problem in Oklahoma.

Allen says we don’t have a dropbox system.

He says Oklahoma has not had any issues regarding ballot security or ballots not being counted, but he says if you do have any concerns, you should contact your county election board or state election board.

“Oklahoma has some of the most accurate and secure elections in the country,” Allen said.

“There will be early voting at two locations,” said Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regalado.

Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regalado says early voting will take place at the Tulsa County Election Board location at 500 North Denver and at the new Tulsa County Board location at 12000 E. Skelly Drive.

They encourage people to go to the 12000 East Skelly Drive location and say more parking will be available.

Misha Mohr of the Oklahoma State Election Board reminds voters that election activities are prohibited within 300 feet of a polling place entrance or the last person in line.

“Election activities are defined by law as advocating for or against a candidate or an issue that appears on the ballot or may appear on a future ballot. So keep in mind that you know what you’re wearing when you walk out the door,” he said. Mohr.

Mohr says pageant activities can be verbal, but also something physical, such as a jacket, a T-shirt, a scarf or a hat. Anything showing support or opposition to a candidate or issue on the ballot.

Early voting is open from tomorrow through Saturday, November 2

From Wednesday to Friday this is from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
