A little warmer and airier

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – After a divided weekend with autumn and spring-like temperatures, it will feel like a season that we cannot yet leave behind: summer. The 80s will return in the coming afternoons.

We expect warmer temperatures statewide on Monday, with the biggest variations in southeastern Nebraska. Without any clouds in the morning and afternoon we could be even warmer.

It will also be windy in eastern Nebraska with gusts between 40 and 55 kilometers per hour. Southerly winds will be the fuel for our warmer temperatures, and they will be strong enough to be a nuisance.

Partly cloudy, breezy and mild across most of Nebraska Monday evening through early Tuesday morning. Lows will range from the 30s and 40s in northern and western Nebraska, to the 50s and 60s in central and eastern Nebraska. South wind 15 to 25 km/hour with gusts up to 35 km/hour.

Tuesday will then be a day when temperatures across the state will split from cool to hot. Behind a cold front that will move through, highs will fall into the 50s and 60s. Ahead of the front, the low to mid 80s are in the forecast.

It will also be a windy day with gusts south and east of the front at 40 to 50 km/h. A windy advisory has been issued for southeastern Nebraska on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

A Fire Watch has been issued due to the dry and windy conditions expected on Tuesday. Critical fire conditions will be possible in parts of eastern and southeastern Nebraska on Tuesday.

Summer’s brief return ends Wednesday with highs back in the low 60s and then upper 50s for Halloween! That front will be the trigger mechanism for showers and storms late Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. There are also more chances of rain next weekend.
