When will relief come to consumers, Cong wonders after OMC increased commission for petrol pump dealers

New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) The Congress party on Wednesday described the increase in commission for petrol pump dealers as mere ‘eyewash’ and asked when the benefits of low fuel prices will be passed on to the consumers and common men.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala hit out at

“Indian crude oil basket stands at $72.04 per barrel on 28.10.2024. Modi govt has earned over Rs 31.75 lakh crore from central taxes/duties on crude oil and petroleum products. When will there be relief for consumers in the form of reduction in petrol-diesel prices?,” he asked.

Meanwhile, the announcement of commission hike for petrol pump dealers by the oil marketing companies (OMCs) is likely to impact petrol and diesel prices in many states. These consumers, especially in remote and remote areas, are likely to benefit significantly.

Reports suggest that petrol and diesel prices are likely to fall in states like Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Himachal Pradesh, due to the perceived rationalization of inter-state freight transport.

Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri welcomed the revision in dealer margins and described it as a Dhanteras gift to the public.

“The demand that had been going on for seven years has been fulfilled. A major decision by the oil companies to rationalize inter-state freight transport will benefit consumers in remote locations far from the petrol and diesel depots of oil marketing companies,” the Union Minister wrote on X.

He further pointed out that the increase in dealer commission will provide better services to around 7 crore citizens who visit fuel shops every day.

He further stated that the fulfillment of this demand will bring joy and happiness in the lives of petrol pump dealers and over 10 lakh employees working at over 83,000 petrol pumps across the country.
