WINDY WITH RECORD HEAT, THEN BLOWING RAIN AND STORMS TONIGHT

For the second day in a row, we expect more record heat in northeastern Wisconsin. Despite the fact that it is the day before Halloween, afternoon high temperatures will climb into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Green Bay’s record high of 75 degrees, set in 1901 on this date, will likely be broken by lunchtime. All of this unseasonably warm air is being blown into northeastern Wisconsin by southwest wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour.

The warm, windy and dry weather keeps our wildfire danger HIGH to VERY HIGH across the state. As we have urged many times this fall, you should avoid outdoor burning while these conditions persist.

Fortunately, they won’t last long. Widespread rain with embedded thunderstorms will move along a strong cold front moving our way. Most of the backlog of rain will move through the area this evening. One to three inches of rain will fall from the Fox Valley and into the NORTHWEST, which will put a dent in our drought conditions. There may also be a few thunderstorms with gusty winds tonight, but the chance of severe weather is LOW.

More showers are likely to follow tomorrow behind the departing cold front. Much cooler air returns, with temperatures dropping back into the 50s and then into the 40s. Halloween trick or treating looks cool and damp with gusty westerly winds. While there will be only a few lingering showers, trick or treaters in north-central Wisconsin will be in for a “snow scare” as some wet flakes fly by in the evening.

There is another chance of rain on Sunday, so it could be wet during the Packers-Lions game. Temperatures will likely be in the low 50s during the game.

Our forecast remains uncertain until early next week. There will be more rain on Election Day, with highs in the lower 60s… It’s entirely possible we’ll get 2-4 inches of welcome rain between now and the middle of next week!
