Rob Gronkowski says he was in college with a Yankees fan who messed with Mookie Betts

BOSTON – Just when you thought about the story about two Yankees fans be ejected of Tuesday night’s World Series game due to interference with Mookie Betts couldn’t get any wilder, Rob Gronkowski has now entered the mix. According to Gronk, he studied with one of those fans.

In his Wednesday appearance on “Up & Adams with Kay Adams,” Gronkowski said he knows Austin Capobianco, one of two fans ejected during Game 4 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium for grabbing Betts after the Dodgers outfielder made a catch in right field in the first inning.

Based on everything we know about Gronkowski during his career with the New England Patriots, it’s easy to imagine him and Capobianco feuding during their college years in Arizona.

Gronkowski says he was college friends with the expelled Yankees fan

“Fun fact: that guy right there who took Mookie Betts’ glove was my friend in college,” Gronkowski told Adams on Wednesday.

“He was on the ice hockey team – the Arizona Wildcats club ice hockey team. Let me tell you, the whole hockey team was absolute maniacs. Indescribable how wild these guys were. Animals,” Gronkowski said.

Gronkowski didn’t sound surprised that Capobianco tried to rip the ball out of Betts’ glove Tuesday night.

“For him to do that represents him very well. He’s all in for his teams. He’s all in for the Yankees,” Gronkowski said. “I remember him talking about the Yankees all the time and how much he loves them.

“He’s a beauty. I just want to congratulate you because you shined when your moment came,” Gronkowski added.

Adams pushed back, asking if he really believes Capobianco’s actions were acceptable. Then Gronk slowed things down a bit.

“I think this behavior is really unacceptable,” Gronkowski said. “…But when you’re such a big fan, that’s what fans do.”

Two Yankees fans are banned from returning for Game 5

Capobianco and his friend, John Peter, were both ejected after interfering with Betts in right field. The Yankees have announced that the two will not return for Wednesday night’s Game 5 at Yankee Stadium.

“Last night, two fans were ejected from Yankee Stadium for blatant and unacceptable physical contact with Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts,” the spokesperson said. the team said in a release. “The safety and security of players, fans and stadium staff is the fundamental element of any event held at Yankee Stadium, and this should not be compromised.”

The Dodgers lead the Yankees 3-1 in the series.
