A Russian court has imposed a fine Googling more than the world’s GPD for blocking Kremlin-linked accounts on its platforms.

The $2.5 decillion fine – which amounts to $2.5 trillion trillion – was handed down on Tuesday. according to The Independent.

The Russian court has doubled the fine, which was originally only $100,000, every week since 2020 because Googling did not pay the fine.

The fine came after two Kremlin-affiliated media outlets won a lawsuit against Google (GOOGL+2.86%) about restrictions placed on their YouTube channel.

Google also banned other Russian media that supported Russia’s actions during the war in Ukraine, making the fines even higher, according to The Independent.

The tech giant has been scaling back its operations in Russia for a few years, blocking Russians from creating new accounts and limiting the ability of Russian nationals to make advertising money on YouTube.

“We have ongoing legal matters regarding Russia,” Google said, according to reports on the fine. “For example, we have been served with civil judgments containing fines in connection with account termination disputes, including those of sanctioned parties.

“We do not believe these ongoing legal matters will have a material adverse effect,” the company said.

Google’s Russian subsidiary filed for bankruptcy in 2022 after Russia seized its bank account.

“The seizure by Russian authorities of Google’s Russian bank account has made the operation of our Russian office untenable, including hiring and paying Russia-based employees, paying vendors and suppliers, and meeting other financial obligations ,” a Google spokesperson said at the time. , according to Reuters.
