Among other sports lots, Mickey Mantle and Shaquille O’Neal are highlights in Lelands’ classic fall auction

NEW YORK CITY – A one-of-a-kind Mickey Mantle autograph display signed with the inscription “These Pens Suck” sold for $247,144, an unopened 1967 First Series Topps Baseball box of 48 cellos fetched $88,711 and Shaquille O’Neal’s 1993 NBA The game-worn, photo-matched All-Star Game Eastern Conference (Resolution) uniform from his rookie season fetched $90,541 in the Lelands 2024 Fall Classic Auction, which ended October 19.

The display of 99 Mickey Mantle signatures β€” and one inscription, “These Pens Suck” β€” appears on an autograph sheet the Yankees legend gifted to a friend who owned a visuals company that produced professional sports products in the 1980s and 1990s. Mantle had written his name on the cardboard 46 times, but on the 47th segment he improvised by writing “These Pens Suck” instead of his signature. Mantle then signed his name 53 more times.

The unopened 1967 Topps Baseball First Series cello box was authenticated and packaged by Baseball Card Exchange (BBCE). The box comes with BBCE packaging, BBCE bottom label and BBCE sticker #X1639.

This 1967 Topps Baseball unopened First Series 48-piece cello box sold for $88,711.

Shaquille O’Neal’s 1993 NBA All-Star Game Eastern Conference game-worn uniform from his rookie season with the Magic includes his shorts and jersey, both of which were convincingly photo-matched. O’Neal had one of the best rookie years in NBA history, averaging 23.4 points, 13.9 rebounds and 3.5 blocks during that 1992-93 season.

Among other highlights of the auction were Jimmie Foxx’s 1932 American League Most Valuable Player Award ($97,804), a 1928 R315 Babe Ruth SGC MINT 9 ($51,598) and the incredible, one-of-a-kind, one-game worn, game worn jersey from Nolan Ryan’s Angels dated April 13, 1978. ($30,168).

The auction also included a Madison Bumgarner 2014 San Francisco Giants World Series Game 7 autographed, game-worn, photo-matched (Resolution LOA) jersey ($68,543), and a Hank Aaron 1963-67 Atlanta Braves autographed game-used bat, possibly used for home run #506 ($30,949).

Other auction highlights included a Michael Jordan 1984 NBA Bulls debut box office ticket PSA EX-MT6 ($80,044), a Jerome Bettis Steelers season-worn nine-game photo-matched jersey ($24,604) and a Fender guitar signed by the members of The Rolling Stones ($27,760).
