INDIANAPOLIS – Pascal Siakam scored 29 points and hit what became the game-winning 3-pointer with 6.1 seconds left in overtime to save the Pacers in a 135-132 overtime victory in a game in which the Pacers were up by as many as 24 points had an advantage. the third quarter.

The Pacers improve to 2-3. The defending NBA champion Celtics fell to 4-1.

Bennedict Mathurin scored 30 points after playing just 14 minutes in Monday’s loss to Orlando. Obi Toppin had 18 points and Tyrese Haliburton had 17 points and 12 assists. Jayson Tatum led Boston by 37 points. Jaylen Brown had 25 and Derrick White had 23.

Jaylen Brown airballed a 3-pointer with 3.1 seconds left and Tyrese Haliburton fired the ball in off the back of Derrick White to put the game away. The Pacers survive.

Pascal Siakam just hit a huge 3 after a huge rebound from Ben Sheppard. Pacers have a chance to sneak away with this one.

Pascal Siakam’s turnaround jumper sets the tone for the game. He has 26, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Big answer there.

Derrick White drove and drew a goaltender from Obi Toppin and the Celtics are ahead for the first time since they had a one-point lead in the first quarter. The Celtics are 2 of 7 in OT, the Pacers are 2 of 8.

After an utterly disastrous fourth quarter for the Pacers. We have overtime. The Pacers were 7 of 22 from the floor with six turnovers in that period. The Celtics 12 of 23, 6 of 14 for 3.

This is a quick get away from the Pacers. The Celtics are 9-0. The Pacers led by as many as 24. They trail 33-22 in the period.

Tyrese Haliburton hit a big pull-up to make it 124-123 with about 33 seconds left, but Jayson Tatum tied it with a 3 with 14.1 seconds left. Haliburton missed a 3 at the end of regulation and off to OT we go.

The Celtics mounted a comeback, but the Pacers have answered, making 4 of their first 6 field goals to start the fourth while the Celtics are 1 of 5. The Pacers are up 58-30 in the paint and Obi Toppin just threw a dive down.

Jayson Tatum got to the rim just before the end of the third period to cut the Pacers’ lead from 24 points to 14 points, so Boston makes a run here, but the Pacers are clearly playing their best game of the year so far . They still outscored Boston 33-29 in the third shooting 12 of 23 for the period and 4 of 8 from 3. They are 39 of 73 from the floor overall going into the fourth, while the Celtics are 30 from being 77. Pacers are at 1.20. points per possession. Celtics are at 1.02.

A bit of a strange line-up deal. Andrew Nembhard only played 5 minutes in the first half and only came out of the locker room at halftime at the start of the third period. However, Pacers PR said that as far as they are aware, there is no indication of an injury to Nembhard. Bennedict Mathurin started in his place and Mathurin cooks. He just hit a three-pointer and has 23 points.

The Pacers are 7 of 9 from the floor, 4 of 5 from 3 out of the gate in the second half and are starting to blow this one open.

Tyrese Haliburton missed his first six shots, but eventually got one to hit a funky-looking pull-up in the lane in which he drove left, came off his right foot and hit a teardrop jumper from about 12 feet.

It was a strong quarter on both ends for the Pacers who shot 13 of 26 from the floor, 4 of 7 from 3 and scored 1.20 points per possession while holding the Celtics to 8 of 25 shooting. Five of those eight buckets were three-pointers, keeping Boston in it, but overall the Pacers did a good job of making Celtics drives difficult. The Pacers are up 40-20 points in the paint.

Pascal Siakam leads the Pacers with 17 points. Aaron Nesmith and Bennedict Mahturin have nine each. Tatum has 15, Brown and White have 10 each.

The Pacers responded to Boston’s shooting rhythm by finding their own. They are 9 of 15 from the floor, 3 of 5 from 3-point range in the second period, and posting 1.45 points per possession in the quarter. Boston, meanwhile, is 5-of-19 from the floor, though they are 4-of-11 from 3. Bennedict Mathurin has nine points in the period and is showing some juice. Siakam has two of those 3s and has a maximum of 15 points for the game.

The Pacers shoot the ball better overall and are ahead 28-16 in points in the paint and 18-13 on the glass, but as always the Celtics are able to get back into the game quickly thanks to the 3-ball. Payton Pritchard’s 3 just before the timeout helped Boston cut its nine-point deficit to two not long ago.

The Celtics are 6 of 15 from 3, while the Pacers are 3 of 10.

Derrick White knocked in a 3 at the buzzer to cut the deficit to four, but the Pacers still had a strong overall finish to the first period. They look motivated as you would expect, playing faster and getting the ball to the hoop.

Through one period, the Pacers are 14 of 25 from the floor, 2 of 8 from 3, 5 of 5 at the line for 1.20 points per possession. Meanwhile, the Celtics are 11-of-26, 3-of-10, 6-of-8 for 1.09 points per possession. The Pacers are up 13-11 on the glass, so they are doing a good job of going after loose balls. Pascal Siakam with nine points, Isaiah Jackson eight and Obi Toppin seven, so good work from the frontcourt across the board.

The Pacers are playing with a funky second unit with Obi Toppin at the 5, Jarace Walker at the 4, and Tyrese Haliburton, TJ McConnell, and Bennedict Mathurin in the backcourt and it’s still working pretty well. They are 10-of-19 from the floor and have posted 1.17 points per possession so far, while the Celtics are 8-of-17 and at 0.92.

At first, this one looks competitive, as a conference finals rematch should. Both teams reach the edge and make a strong finish. Celtics are 6 of 9 from the floor with 10 points in the paint. Jaylen Brown has eight. Pacers are 7 of 12. Pascal Siakam and Isaiah Jackson each have six points. Jackson does a good job attacking the rim in place of Myles Turner. Pacers with 1.35 points per possession so far. Celtics at 1.18.

Isaiah Jackson starts for the injured Myles Turner. Al Horford starts for the injured Kristaps Porzingis. The rest of the entrees are as expected.

Dustin Dopirak: Celtics 120-112

The Pacers are looking more like themselves despite losing their third straight game. The attack runs smoothly, with the ball coming into the paint and three-pointers being hit. All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton shook off at least some of what was ailing him and All-Star power forward Pascal Siakam looked for mismatches and exploited them.

They looked like a team that should win the next game…except the opponent is the Boston Celtics. They’re rolling, and oddly enough their best game was against the Detroit Pistons.

The Pacers will be competitive, but the Celtics will see them coming and will be a little too much.

Expect Indiana to break through on the road this weekend.
