Video of Donald Trump ‘struggling’ to get into the garbage truck goes viral

Commentators on social media have raised concerns about Donald Trump’s health after images emerged of the Republican presidential candidate getting into a garbage truck bearing the campaign logo.

Commenting on the video, one activist said Trump “seems to be really struggling physically,” while another said the former president had “deteriorated so much that he now moves like a drunk.”

On Wednesday in Wisconsin, Trump was filmed getting into a garbage truck while wearing an orange fluorescent safety vest, an apparent response to President Joe Biden appearing to call his supporters “trash” earlier this week. The footage was taken during a campaign stop in Wisconsin, and Trump later wore the fluorescent vest to a rally in Green Bay.

A seven-second clip of Trump getting into the truck was shared on X by Matt McDermott, a pollster who works on a range of progressive causes as senior vice president of Whitman Insight Strategies. McDermott added: “Trump seems to be having a really hard time physically.”

The video shows Trump leaning toward the garbage truck door and appearing to miss it, before standing unsteadily on his feet for a moment. McDermott’s post went viral on X, with more than 7,900 reposts and 3.7 million views.

In response to the clip, attorney Jeffrey Evan Gold, who has provided legal analysis on CNN, said, “Just saying. I don’t think he’ll pass the physical exam for the garbage job, but at least he’s trying.”

Canadian comedian Deven Green wrote from her satirical ‘Mrs. Betty Bowers’ account: “He has deteriorated so much that he now moves like a drunk.”

Former NBA basketball player Rex Chapman also commented on the footage, saying: “Will this make any networking tonight???”

Stuart Stevens, a political consultant and author of “The Conspiracy to End America,” wrote: “The irony is that no city or state could hire Donald Trump as a garbage collector, since he is a felon on bail and awaiting is of his conviction.’

Newsweek contacted the Trump campaign by email outside regular business hours on Thursday for comment.

Other commentators praised Trump for his action on social media.

In a post on The next day, Trump is picked up by a garbage truck in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He is playing chess.

The popular “Libs of TikTok” account, run by Chaya Raichik, wrote, “I love how the media is being forced to cover Trump in a garbage truck. They must be going crazy.’

On Tuesday, Biden appeared to call Trump supporters “trash,” in response to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe who labeled Puerto Rico a “floating island of trash” during the former president’s rally at Madison Square Gardens on Sunday.

Speak with Newsweek, White House spokesman Andrew Bates insisted that Biden was addressing the “hateful rhetoric emanating from the Madison Square Garden rally,” rather than referring to Trump supporters as a whole.

Addressing the media from the garbage truck, Trump compared Biden’s comment to Hillary Clinton, who in 2016 labeled “half” of his supporters as a “basket of deplorables,” calling the comment “a disgrace.”

During his rally in Green Bay, Trump joked that his campaign team persuaded him to wear the orange vest by saying it made him look thinner.

The Republican candidate said his initial reaction to the suggestion was “absolutely not,” but they responded, “If you did, you know it actually makes you look thinner.”

Trump added: “They got me. I said I want to wear it on stage. I may never wear a blue jacket again.”
