Penn State vs. Wisconsin

  1. It’s written in the stars that Penn State simply won’t have a normal game again this season.
  2. Imagine a world where Penn State goes up 10-0 in the first quarter, leads 20-7 at halftime, and then wins 37-10. That can’t be us.
  3. I really thought Drew Allar “had it” during the first quarter. He saw the field so well and was dealing. Really, he should have started 10-for-10 if not for the Julian Fleming drop.
  4. There is nothing in the world that drives me up a wall more than Penn State’s defense giving up third down for first downs. Nothing!
  5. Oddly enough, I don’t blame Jalen Kimber much for running past the punter. I mean, annoying for sure, but it was so unblocked and coming so quickly that it’s almost impossible to disable what you’re being taught (don’t contact the gambler) in that split instance.
  6. Dom DeLuca LIT that gambler up though.
  7. Speaking of the drop, that might have been the easiest drop I can remember in a Penn State game. I don’t say this lightly: *I* could have caught that ball.
  8. I still believe we get a Julian Fleming touchdown against Ohio State this week. The universe must produce results.
  9. Despite all the talk on air about Nick Singleton not looking like he did at the beginning of the season, I thought he looked good. Maybe there’s top gear he doesn’t have, but he also doesn’t look like someone who isn’t capable of going 100+ yards.
  10. I would like to see Nick Singleton gesture more widely. Can we have a Saquon Barkley vs. Get Michigan 2017 with Singleton one-on-one with a linebacker?
  11. Some IDIOT yelled at Drew as he walked to the locker room and Drew let him know what was right. I want Drew to know: I have your back. I’m ready to fight for you, just let me know when and where, bro.
  12. “We need the defense to score a touchdown if we want to win this game” isn’t a new thought for Penn State fans over the years. I remember sitting in the Horseshoe last season and having the exact same thought.
  13. Maybe the offense would have been okay even if Jaylen Reed hadn’t scored there, but man, what a moment when Braedyn Locke threw right to Reed right when it felt like Penn State needed that play.
  14. If Reed got a taunting penalty for handing the ball to what looked like his family after his pick six, that seems like a good rule to change, right?
  15. I understand you don’t want guys kicking the ball into the stands after every touchdown, but maybe some common sense could be shown when a player has a big game and wants to honor his family in a fairly low-key way?
  16. Not for nothing, but Gabe Nwosu had a strong kickoff after the penalty and was big as he kept the momentum on Penn State’s side. Big difference between starting at 35 and starting at 50.
  17. Alonzo Ford is pretty good. At 6-foot-1 and 319 pounds, he’s a big body who moves well and he’s starting to put it all together. Really a fun game with 2 TFLs. Excited for his play the rest of the way down the stretch, and what will surely be a starting role next season.
  18. Okay, time for a Beau Pribula chat. I mean, what a guy!
  19. I’ll start with something negative and then I promise we’ll go for the positive, but let me say this: some of those tight windows are dangerous. Certainly, Pribula deserves praise for his timing and accuracy. But foooooolllllkkkksss, against the wrong defense they could go the other way.
  20. It’s so obvious how natural Pribula is as a pitcher when he’s on the run. You saw Andy Kotelnicki go there on a pair of third downs, where he immediately let Pribula roll out and found a receiver running out.
  21. Kotelnicki’s confidence in Pribula was evident on third-and-goal that ended in a Khalil Dinkins touchdown. That’s a slow-developing game when Singleton isn’t open in the flat. You then wait until Dinkins has completely crossed over, or Warren has disappeared from the battle. Big spot there with Penn State only one ahead, but Pribula didn’t panic and showed impressive patience.
  22. I said this on Twitter but I’ll say it here: in the NIL era when many players just go to the highest bidder and have no emotional connection to the school, they watch a kid like Pribula go to his dream school damn rocks .
  23. Should we waste some time and energy wondering when Drew Allar will return? Sure, why not.
  24. Conventional wisdom from Twitter docs and James Franklin referencing Allar may make practice this week make it look like Allar has a Grade 1 MCL sprain. That’s good news for Penn State, because it *must* mean this is a short-term injury. We’re talking a few days to maybe a few weeks, but certainly nothing that should end Allar’s season.
  25. That being said, I’m preparing for no Allar Saturday. It just feels (keyword here, for the record) like too quick a turnaround when it was bad enough that he couldn’t play through it on Saturday night.
  26. By the way, I saw a few dingbats on Twitter (not linking to them because they don’t deserve the impressions) questioning Drew for not going back in. He was literally CRYING on the sidelines as he told James Franklin and the rest of the team that he couldn’t play.
  27. This was very clearly not a scenario of a kid looking for a way out, and you would think he would have earned the benefit of the doubt from Penn State fans at this point.
  28. There must be a wrinkle in Vega Ioane’s movements where he simply runs into the flat for a pass. Please, Kotelnicki, make this happen for me.
  29. Quiet evening from Abdul Carter. It’s going to take some big splash plays, like suplexing Penn State superfan Will Howard into the Earth’s core this Saturday.
  30. I’ve been saying for literally years that Amin Vanover would be a starting defensive end at just like 75% of the other schools. With Dani Dennis-Sutton likely out with what appeared to be a strained groin, I can see how right (or wrong) I am about Vanover.
