Wisconsin Men Win Big Ten Cross Country Title | WTAQ News Talk | 97.5 FM · 1360 AM

(BIG TEN) SAVOY, Ill. – The Wisconsin men’s cross country team claimed its seventh straight team title after winning the 2024 Big Ten Cross Country Championships hosted by the University of Illinois at Orange and Blue Golf Course.

The Badgers totaled 46 points, including five runners who placed in the top 20. Washington and Oregon both scored 58 points to complete the podium spots.

Bob Liking of Wisconsin took the individual title, completing the 8K course in a time of 22:47.3. His time marked a new championship record, surpassing the previous record time of Purdue’s Matt McClintock of 23:12.1. Liking captured his fourth consecutive individual crown and joined an elite group as only the fourth runner and only Badger in Big Ten history to claim four individual championships.

Wisconsin stands alone as the most decorated program in Big Ten history, with 55 team championships and 38 individual titles. With this year’s victory, head coach Mick Byrne has led his program to 16 championships, the best mark by any coach in conference history.

The top 10 finishers at the Big Ten Championships captured first-team All-Big Ten honors, while competitors ranked 11-20 received second-team laurels. The five highest-finishing freshmen earned a spot on the freshmen team.
