‘He took a dive’… Mike Tyson accuses Jake Paul of faking a sparring knockdown of top 15 heavyweights

Mike Tyson has claimed Jake Paul made a sparring partner ‘take a dip’ in viral footage from fight camp.

The legendary heavyweight champion will face YouTuber and boxer Paul on November 15, and preparations for the fight are really starting to get underway. Last month, the controversial 10-1 cruiserweight contender shared a video of himself apparently knocking down a teammate during sparring.

But boxing icon Tyson believes the footage was staged and that the teammate’s demise was intentional. The man in the video is believed to be undefeated top prospect DeAndre Savage, who has been in camp in Puerto Rico with Paul for the past few weeks.

Jake Paul dropped into the top 15 heavyweights in a viral sparring video

Jake Paul made headlines last month when he shared a video of one of his sparring sessions in which he dropped a teammate with an overhand right. In the footage, captioned “Take notes,” he can be seen telling Tyson, “Don’t attack me.”

It later emerged that the opponent Paul faced in the video was DeAndre Savage, a 6-0 heavyweight from Michigan. He was previously spotted in camp with the social media star and has shared images of himself training for the infamous yellow ‘W’ cloth.

The punch Paul landed, a huge overhand right, is one he is known to throw often in fights where he looks down and swings wildly. He managed to viciously take out Tyron Woodley with a similar shot in their 2021 rematch.

And it seemed to work for Savage, an amateur with solid experience before turning into an undefeated professional. The Detroit native has even earned a spot in the WBA’s top 15 at heavyweight, making him a formidable foe.

Fans were skeptical about the sparring footage

But as with everything Paul does, fans were skeptical about the legitimacy of his video. They claimed that either the sparring partner wasn’t good enough or it was somehow staged afterwards in the comments.

The video was viewed over 10 million times on social media platforms, with commenters writing messages like “I can guarantee Tyson won’t come at you without head movements like that guy” and “I like how homeboy came in with Sloppy without a doubt.” footwork.”

A few commenters claimed Savage was a “paid actor,” while others added “That was a terrible sparring partner.” However, it seems like the undefeated American is a pretty solid sparring partner to have given his position to the WBA.

Mike Tyson claims Jake Paul’s sparring partner took a dive

It’s not just fans who aren’t convinced by Paul’s sparring video; Mike Tyson himself is also a bit questionable. ‘Iron Mike’ was recently on Henry Cejudo and Kamaru Usman’s ‘Pound 4 Pound’ podcast where he claimed Savage took a dive.

Tyson couldn’t remember the boxer’s name, but referred to the footage toward the end of his conversation with the two UFC legends. Cejudo is an Olympic gold medalist and former two-weight world champion in the UFC, while Usman is considered one of the greatest welterweight champions in history.

“Did you see his sparring session where the guy pretended to get knocked down?” Tyson asked the hosts, who seemed confused by the question. “That was beautiful. The black man, a chubby black man, he fell, he took a dive.

‘I’m going right through him, he doesn’t have to find me, all I’m going to do is head straight for him. He doesn’t have to worry about finding me.’
