John Mulaney hosts ‘SNL’ and makes his kids scream as Pete Davidson cameos

John Mulaney had some sweet words while hosting Saturday evening live.

The comedian, 42, hosted the Nov. 2 episode, where Chappell Roan joined him as musical guest.

During his opening monologue, Mulaney talked about life as a father of two. The comedian and his wife, actress Olivia Munn, welcomed their daughter Méi June on September 14 via surrogacy. The couple also shares 2-year-old son Malcolm Hiệp.

“I’ve been great. My wife and I just welcomed a baby girl into our family,” he said to cheers from the crowd.

“We have a five-week-old daughter,” he explained, as well as a “two-year-old son.”

“My wife takes care of the five-week-old baby and I take the two-year-old out. And that’s not fair,” Mulaney joked.

He continued with a playful analogy of the childcare disparity: “That’s not an equal division of labor at all. If you say you have a five-week-old child, I’ll take a two-year-old child. That’s like saying: ‘I will transport this’.” convicted across state lines, you’re holding a potato.”

Later, at the end of the show, as the cast, guest host and host stood on stage, Mulaney took a moment to shout out to his children after thanking others involved in the show.

“Good night Malcom, good night Méi,” he said, waving at the camera.

Mulaney appeared in a slew of sketches throughout the night, including one with a cameo from Pete Davidson.

The Saturday evening live alum, 30, appeared in a sketch titled “Port Authority Duane Reade,” in which he and cast member Andrew Dismukes shopped at a Duane Reade store near Port Authority.

Wearing a white Rodney Dangerfield t-shirt for the skit, Davidson’s arms were noticeably less tattooed than in recent years, with some very faded ink on his forearms and a few tattoos still visible on his upper arms.

Davidson recently stepped out to attend the sneak preview of The Room at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California on October 23, revealing a more pared-back look that left his arms appearing almost completely tattoo-free. The comedian and actor first spoke about removing his tattoos in 2020.

Elsewhere in the show, Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance in the cold open just three days before the presidential election.

Maya Rudolph reprized her role as vice president in the skit, with 60-year-old Harris appearing near the end, opposite Rudolph in a mirror, wearing a matching outfit.

Host Mulaney was a writer on the long-running sketch comedy show for five years, starting in 2008 — the same year his recurring character Stefon, created in collaboration with cast member Bill Hader, made his “Weekend Update” debut.

The comedian was a host for the first time SNL in 2018 during season 43 and joined the show’s Five-Timers Club, or a group of stars who have hosted the show five or more times, in 2022. Christopher Walken, Emma Stone, Justin Timberlake and Alec Baldwin are just a few of the other club members.

Earlier this year, Mulaney narrated the audiobook glory days, a collection of short stories written by former SNL writer Simon Rich, which was published in July. The comedian also recently starred in John Mulaney presents: Everyone’s in LAa six-night live event that was part of this year’s Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival.

Saturday evening live airs at 11:30 PM EST on weekends on NBC.
