Storms cause damage and knock out power to 40,000 people in the Tulsa area

More than 40,000 PSO customers in Tulsa and surrounding counties have been left without power due to severe storms, according to the utility’s outage map.

Many residents woke up to find downed power lines, scattered debris and significant damage from fallen trees blocking roads.

Tulsa Police have closed a portion of Riverside Drive near 41st Street due to a large tree that fell due to heavy wind and rain. The police direct traffic away from the area.

While no injuries have been reported as a result of the storm, forecasters warn of possible additional rain and minor flooding throughout the day.

Motorists are urged to be careful as high water could damage some roads.
