Where to vote, polling places and what’s voting in Greenville

Voting for the 2024 general election ends Tuesday. For two weeks, more than 1 million voters in South Carolina voted early for candidates running for federal, state and local offices. Early voting ended Saturday.

Here’s what you need to know about voting on Tuesday.

When is Election Day 2024?

Election Day, or the general election, is on November 5. In the general election, voters will decide who represents federal, state, and local offices, including the U.S. President, the U.S. Senate, and state legislatures.

What time do polling stations open and close on election day?

In South Carolina, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Anyone in line at 7 p.m. can vote.

What should I bring to vote?

Residents must show identification to vote. This could be a driver’s license, an identification card issued by the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles, a voter registration card with a photo, a federal military ID, or a U.S. passport.

Can I wear campaign clothing to the polls?

No. Do not go to a polling place with the name or slogan of a candidate or party on a hat, T-shirt, button or pin. South Carolina law prohibits campaign materials within 500 feet of a polling place.

How can I check my registration?

To check if you are already registered, go online to the South Carolina Election Commission and enter your information to check your status.

Which referendums will be on the ballot paper?

In a referendum, residents vote for or against a law or initiative on a specific subject. Ballot referendums depend on where you live and can be found on the Electoral Commission website.

A statewide referendum will be held on an article in the Constitution asking whether it should be amended to “provide that only a citizen of the United States and of such age as eighteen years and above, who is properly registered, has the right to vote.” as determined by law?”

Greenville County voters will decide whether to implement a one percent sales tax to raise money for roads.

Voters in Anderson County will get two transportation taxes on the ballot.

In Spartanburg, voters will hold five referendums, all on fire districts in the county.
