Election 2024: Voters can still register to vote in these states

While many states have passed the deadline for eligible residents to register to vote, 22 states and the District of Columbia are offering one last chance to register and cast a ballot in the coming days.

However, potential voters at those locations will have to go in person and bring essential items with them.

Same-day voter registration, in which an eligible voter can register to vote in person and cast a ballot at the same location after their application is approved, has become an increasingly popular option in recent years, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures, which has announced registration deadlines to keep up with.

The potential voter must bring identification and proof of residency to have their registration approved, the NCSL said. In most cases this would only mean a driver’s license, but other additional evidence is accepted, including utility bills and pay slips, the NCSL said.

Several states will consider a ballot provisional until proper identification is provided or until the voter’s application is fully verified, the NCSL said.
