Richard Gere sells Connecticut home for $10.75 million

This 31.8-acre estate in Connecticut has a lot of history and is now in the hands of a number of new owners.

Golden Globe-winning actor Richard Gere just sold the New Canaan estate he bought two years ago from multiple Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Paul Simon, the New Canaan Advertiser reports. The deal appears to have taken place off-market – and while the identity of the new owner is not immediately clear, the sale resulted in a small loss for the ‘Pretty Woman’ star.

Real estate data shows the spreads traded hands for $10.75 million. In 2022, Gere and his wife, Spanish publicist Alejandra Silva, spent $10.8 million for the complex.

This is not the only loss the property has suffered.

When Gere and Silva bought it, they got a good deal. Simon and his wife, singer Edie Brickell, had been trying to sell the Georgian-style estate since 2019, initially for $13.9 million. The asking price then fluctuated between $11.9 million and $12 million – all a lot less than the $16.5 million they paid for it in 2002.

Despite the struggle to sell, Simon’s fans may be interested in the fact that he has recorded several albums in the five-bedroom main house. (In total, the property includes that structure and a three-bedroom cottage.)

For his part, Gere sold the estate to move to his wife’s native Spain.

Benefits, at least of the outdoor variety, include gardens, a swimming pool and terraced patios. There is also a pond with a waterfall and hiking trails.
