Police investigate incident between Jason Kelce and Heckler

Penn State Police and Public Safety are investigating the incident between Jason Kelce and an unknown fan at State College and the “process is ongoing,” a university spokesperson confirmed in an email to The Post.

Kelce was seen in a now-viral video smashing the phone of a young man who had walked behind the former NFL lineman and harassed him on Saturday.

The fan used a homophobic slur when he challenged Kelce about his brother Travis and girlfriend Taylor Swift.

The University Police daily crime log for the day noted an incident in which an “officer observed a patron damaging personal property” at Curtin Road and Commuter Drive, near Beaver Stadium.

Several videos that made their way to social media showed Jason Kelce, who had been in State College on Penn State’s campus to participate in ESPN’s “College Gameday,” walking near Beaver Stadium as fans walking around the neighborhood shouting his name and trying to get a high five. .

Things changed when a fan yelled at Kelce, “Hey Kelce, how does it feel that your brother is into dating Taylor Swift?”

The former Eagle quickly made a U-turn, confronted the person and grabbed his phone, before knocking him to the ground.

The unidentified person then pushed Kelce as he went to pick it up and the man, who was wearing a Penn State sweatshirt, could be heard demanding, “Give me my phone, Kelce.”

That’s when Kelce shot back, “Who’s the ft now?” several times before finally walking away from the incident.

The crime log listed possible violations as criminal mischief and disorderly conduct for the incident.

It is unclear whether anyone reported the altercation to university police.

ESPN declined to comment when reached by The Post on Monday evening.

Kelce discussed the situation at the top of ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” ahead of the Buccaneers-Chiefs game.

A remorseful Kelce said he was “not happy with what happened” on Saturday, adding: “I’m not proud of it.”

“I think the bottom line is that I try to live my life according to the Golden Rule,” he said on air Monday evening. “It’s what I’ve always been taught. I try to treat people with common decency and respect, and I will continue to do that in the future, even though I fell short this week.”

However, Kelce seemed to get a lot of support from fans and even Penn State football coach James Franklin.

During his press conference on Monday, Franklin appeared to applaud the “consequences” the fan faced for his actions toward Kelce.

“I think it’s great that that person had a consequence for their action,” Franklin said. “Can it sometimes go too far and talk about the passion and all those things that are great? Yes. But sometimes that’s no excuse for bad behavior. It comes with the territory, but that doesn’t make it right.”
