Early voting in Michigan is over, with Election Day Tuesday

More than 1.2 million Michigan residents took advantage of early in-person voting before it ended Sunday, state officials said Monday morning.

Including absentee ballots, nearly 3.1 million of the state’s more than seven million registered voters already cast ballots before Election Day.

Sunday was the highest day for early in-person voting with 189,422 votes cast.

With one day to go until Election Day, Wayne County, one of the counties with the most early in-person voters, has registered 175,040 votes.

When did early voting end?

Early in-person voting ended Sunday.

The early voting period began on the second Saturday before Election Day, Oct. 26, and ended on Sunday, Nov. 3, Michigan’s secretary of state said.

Detroit, Canton and East Lansing began early voting before Oct. 26. Detroit started early voting on October 19, Canton and East Lansing started early voting on October 21.

However, communities were allowed to decide to set additional days for early voting. Under state law, communities can offer up to 28 days of early voting.

How many people have voted in Michigan so far?

As of November 3, there were 7,274,257 registered active voters. According to the Secretary of State, this is voting by mail and early voting in Michigan starting November 3:

  • Returned ballots: 1,981,594
  • Personally voted: 1,214,444
  • Total votes submitted: 3,196,038

Where did most people vote in person?

As of October 31, here are the top five counties where voters cast ballots during early voting:

  • Wayne County: 175,040
  • Oakland County: 153,594
  • Macomb County: 122,025
  • Kent County: 96,705
  • Genesee County: 54,077

When are the 2024 presidential elections?

The general election will be held on November 5. The polling stations are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m

To vote on Election Day, you must vote in your assigned precinct.

You can still return ballots, but officials recommend you do so in person at your clerk’s office or polling place.

When are early and absentee ballots counted in Michigan?

According to the Secretary of State, it takes time to safely process and count absentee ballots.

“To ensure timely results, many states allow clerks a week or more to process absentee ballots before Election Day. For example, Florida allows clerks to process absentee ballots a month before an election,” the Secretary of State noted .

In Michigan, cities and townships with a population of 5,000 or more can establish an Absentee Voter Counting Board to process and tabulate absentee ballots during one of the eight days before an election between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Cities and municipalities, regardless of their population, may establish an AVCB to process and tabulate absentee ballots on the Monday before the election between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

When will we know whether Kamala Harris or Donald Trump won the election?

There will almost certainly be enough votes counted to announce the winners. When the polling stations close, the results already received are published. More will be added as proceeds come in from across the state.

To find local election results, the Michigan Secretary of State has a list of local clerks’ websites.

But no state can count every vote on election night, and the results could change days or even weeks later.

Votes counted after Election Day include those of members of the military and people living abroad, whose completed absentee ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and returned by their local office within six days of the election. clerk must be received.
