State Assembly, Family Court Judge on the ballot today

Today it is election day in the United States.

In the 150th State Assembly race, Andreas Molitor runs against Republican and Conservative lines Michael Bobseine who is committed to the Democrats, Working Families and Restore Freedom lines. Both men want to replace the current Republican lawmaker Andy Goodellwho will step down at the end of 2024.

Incumbent state senator George Borello is running unopposed along Republican and Conservative lines for the 57th district.

In Chautauqua County, Peter Johnson runs against Republican and Conservative lines Sally Jaroszynski who is active on the Working Families Line Chautauqua County Family Court Judge. That seat is currently held by Republicans Jeff Piazza who is retiring.

Republican Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt runs without opposition.

In the 23rd Congressional DistrictSitting Nick Langworthy in countering the Republican and Conservative lines Thomas Carle who is running for that seat on the Democratic line.

The Equal Rights Amendmentor Prop 1, is a state constitutional amendment that would ban discrimination in reproductive health care and other categories such as sexual orientation, national origin and age.

The ballot proposal would expand protections already provided in the New York Constitution, specifically this language: “No person shall be denied equal protection under the laws of this State or any part thereof. No person shall, because of race, color, creed or religion, be subjected to any discrimination in his or her civil rights by another person or by any corporation, business or institution, or by the State or any agency or subdivision of the State. .”

Prop 1 would add these protections to ethnicity, national origin, age, disability and sex, including sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes and reproductive health care and autonomy.

It would also add language that nothing in the amendment would preclude future legislation designed to “prevent or dismantle discrimination based on any of the protected characteristics,” and not allow any protected characterize “interfere with, restrict, or deny” the civil rights of another. person.
