The 45th and now 47th president of the United States is only the second person in history to serve two non-consecutive terms.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell holds a news conference hours after the Republican Party won control of the Senate, regaining control of the chamber for the first time in four years.

The victory gives the party a major power center in Washington and a role in confirming the next president’s Cabinet, as well as a possible Supreme Court justice if a vacancy opens up.

Trump is the first convicted criminal to be elected president of the United States.

His victory allows him to implement his radical vision for a much more conservative country, with power concentrated in his hands.
