Harris will deliver a speech after losing to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election

Washington — Vice President Kamala Harris will speak Wednesday at 4:00 PM ET from Howard University in Washington, D.C., after she defeated by former President Donald Trump in the race for the White House.

CBS News estimates that Harris had won 222 electoral votes, fewer than the 276 that Trump, her Republican opponent, had collected. Trump surpassed the 270 electoral votes needed to secure the presidency just after 5:30 a.m. ET Wednesday, after locking down the battlegrounds of Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania And Wisconsin.

Harris was expected to address supporters at Howard, the historically black college from which she graduated in 1986, on election night, but as results rolled in, she never made it to her alma mater. Instead, campaign chairman Cedric Richmond sent the gathered crowd home and said Harris would speak on Wednesday.

Election Day on November 5 capped a chaotic and historic presidential election cycle that included two presidential elections murder attempts against Trump and was in an uproar over President Biden’s sudden announcement in July that he would do so leave the race after a disastrous debate performance in late June.

Harris quickly announced her own candidacy for the White House and Democrats quickly united around her as their choice to take on Trump. Her appointment was confirmed at the Democratic National Committee in Chicago in August, where Harris made history as the first woman of color to top a major party ticket.
